We finally get to see what happened to Michael's guard in Sicily who planted the bomb that blew up his first wife.

A lot more scenes that explain the motives of the events that occured.

How many times have you seen The Godfather? Five? Ten? Fifteen? Too many to count? What about The Godfather Part II? Probably 50-75 percent as many times as you've seen the original? Something like that?



Regardless of what the actual number is, whenever it is on TV, it's hard to change the channel. It's to be expected from arguably the greatest film ever made and inarguably the greatest sequel ever made.


HBO, clever as the network is, recognized our collective weakness for Francis Ford Coppola's masterpieces, and has decided to air a seven-plus-hour, chronologically cut mashup of the two films. It is called The Godfather Epic, and not only will it tell the story of the Corleone family as we've never seen it before, it will feature additional footage that wasn't included in the theatrical version of the films. The 424-minute epic debuted on HBO Sunday afternoon, and will continue to air throughout the rest of January. It is also currently available to stream on HBO NOW. Clear your schedule.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Puzo didn't write that story as part of his original Godfather saga, right?

I thought it was written after the fact by another writer he gave authorization to.

Frankly I think anything else they'd try to do would only detract from I and II (just look at III)

III is a good movie, the problem is you inevitably watch it with I & II goggles. In comparison, it's pretty bad. But as taken for its own merits, it's still a good flick.

I think that III is a great movie and IMO, pulls at the heartstrings much more than the previous movies because we've seen Michael's journey and how he's tried so hard to leave that life behind.

The casting was outstanding, especially Andy Garcia, Joe Montegna and the incomparable Eli Wallach.

I ran into Joe at Costco Burbank a few years ago as he was buying paper products and related items for his restaurant in Burbank called "Taste of Chicago".

He was wearing a black shirt, black leather jacket and jeans. When I first saw him, I said "Zaza!". He just looked at me, winked and "Hey guy, how ya doin?".

As for my take on "Epic", it's "interesting" if you've seen Godfather I & II previously.

But I'd certainly recommend watching the film versions before this version.

She didn't bother me at all, probably because I had some of cousins that looked and talked like her.

I think Winona Ryder would have been awful and completely unbelievable in that role.
