Considering a vacation to Atlanta

The kiddo may or may not be coming with us.

Just wondering what to make sure to do while we're there. We decided on Atlanta because neither of us has been there, and it is home of the largest aquarium in the US. Other than that, I'm not for sure what it's known for as far as tourist attractions. I'm commencing Google searches, but I'd just thought I'd also see if anyone on here who either lives there or has been there can suggest some things. Thinking July or August.

Just in case we take the kiddo, he will be 16-18 months at the time of the trip. If you list something, please say whether it would be appropriate (or geared towards) children.

Thanks!

Very nice!

I have a southern trip in May, and 3 days in Atlanta is on the list. The Aquarium, Coca-Cola, CNN, and College Football HOF were all on my list to see.

I guess I'll add Center for Civil and Human Rights, as well.

On top of those, I want to see the Carter Presidential Library & Museum.

Braves aren't in town.

Don't miss the wing on police beatings and the bombings of children. I think it's near the cafeteria.

It's funny when people are traveling to where you live. I look at the list of things people want to do and literally nobody local does any of them.

I wonder if I'm that way when I go places too?

Just went to Savannah last weekend. Aside from the weather being stupid cold, we had a great time. Got wasted on River Street, which was nice cuz we stayed at River Street Inn. Did a horse drawn carriage tour, then that night took a bicycle taxi to a haunted pub crawl, and then got wasted on River Street again!!

Vacations are funny that way. I'm in a touristy part of Denver, so I'm always seeing people walking around taking photos of the buildings and views I see every day. And I do the same thing when I go to their town. I guess anything new and unfamiliar is exotic to us.

I'm in Denver all the time. I just can't see the touristy part. Denver just really doesn't have much of a history. Nothing really historical that stands out happened there.Old buildings sure..

You're clearly not from Japan, because they find us fascinating based on who I see walking around.

It's a reasonable point. The city was founded in 1858. We're probably one of the newest 1+ million metropolitan areas in the world, now that I think about it. On volume of history, we're not going to compete with a lot of other places in the U.S., and the eastern hemisphere is completely in another league.

That said, there's some cool stuff. There's great architecture and silver baron mansions if you go to the right neighborhoods, and the city's history as essentially a miner's jumpoff point is interesting. It's just not really obvious as something to look for. And in the current world, there's all sorts of vacation-y stuff to do. The mountains and outdoors are obviously the main things, but we've got good museums and culture and stuff.

If you're a Japanese architecture and willing to spend the $$$ sure. Denver has insane homes.
