Would Arrowhead's Toys in the Attic sell today?

Was bored when I got home and wanted to listen to some music. So I was perusing and saw Arrowsmith's Toys in the Attic amonst the multitudes of CD's. It's been a long time since I listened to this particular album. But I think it still holds up. Yeah it's Bronco week. **** off. Just wondering.Remember I was bored. And maybe feeling a little old.

They wouldn't even get signed today to a major label. I don't care what any of you guys say, rock is dead.

Dead.

It's not being licensed for film and TV, it's not selling albums and it's not selling tours. Even Van Halen can't sell out stadiums anymore and they're relegated to small arenas and amphitheaters.

The young kids and teens are not into guitar driven rock with lyrics about sex and love. They're not. It's a different mindset and a different vibe.

The only thing that you are not really getting in music right now is the great arena rock stuff of the 70's, but that's not an indictment of the music industry/culture being crap.
I know there is great music out there. But the shit that hits the airwaves now nauseates me. It's so depressing. I could be wrong but if one had to put a timestamp on it it would remind me of the period before the Beatles and the Stones burst on the scene. Am I wrong?

I'm not pushing for Arrowsmith specifically. I'm just saying if someone put out a album that sounded totally different than the pablum that is on the radio today. And I refuse to believe that musicanship is a lost art. I see kids playing in the garage in my neighborhood.

Radio is an indicator of nothing.

Radio exists because of advertising. Advertisers know their market and attempt to sell their products to their target audience. That's why you'll hear different advertising on Classic Rock stations than you will on "Pop" music stations.

Furthermore, there is no direct link between album sales, concert tickets and radio. I used to see songs in heavy rotation in which you'd think the artist sold 10 million records when in fact, they'd not even hit 200,000.

But the bottom line in terms of Aerosmith is that the heyday of that music is long over. Even if Aerosmith put out a record that was better than Toys (which is impossible, especially since they stopped writing their own songs more than 30 years ago), no one would care.

Listening to the New York Dolls right now via our local indy radio station - KRCL. (Which is the single greatest radio station I've ever experienced.)

http://tunein.com/radio/KRCL-909-s34950/

Zero advertising, supported by community fund drives. Metal show tonight. Blues on Monday nights. Electronica on Tuesdays, etc.

Some very good stuff is out there for you if you want it.

Those early nineties though. ****. Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Rollins Band, Megadeth, Melvins, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Soundgarden, Stp, Pantera, plus a lot of the bands from the 70's and 80's in rock and metal were still kicking around.

There's still a lot of guitar driven music that's being being made but it definitively peaked in the early to mid 90's and that time will never come again.

Oh, things always come back around. At some point in America (and this is really an American issue, as metal and rock are still strong in Europe & South America), people will begin digging bands and performers than can play their own instruments without the aid of a computer.

It may be another decade but it'll happen.

Absolutely, I refuse to believe that America's got talent ect. is the nadir of music these days. Singers are a dime a dozen. It's songwriters and musicians that will always rule the day. Rock ain't dead. I just think it's too hard for kids to want to do these days. No one wants to pay their dues they want instant gratification.
