ESPN Outside the Lines Report: Goodell went easy on Spygate

It's been all over ESPN Radio all morning. Report says that Goodell threw the book at Brady because he gave them a break on Spygate.

I didn't hear it all, but they alleged that the NFL destroyed evidence because they videoed a shitton of practices and Goodell wanted to limit the exposure to a few games. They said that Belichick even admitted to doing like 40 games but Goodell covered it up.

A couple other points that were brought up that were interesting was that Martz came out and said Goodell asked him to put out a statement saying he was satisfied with the investigation for the good of the league and he is absolutely not.

Also, the reporter said that former Pat players admitted to the Pats sending a low level guy to the other lockerroom while they were warming up to steal the scripted plays that most teams start with.

I haven't seen the piece, but a lot of the things this reporter spouted off were pretty damning. Usually OTL is pretty good, but this had a lot of conspiracy theory tone to it.

Has anyone read it?

Well, not the 97' Superbowl. I think Parcells and that team actually earned it.

Now, Goodell clearly isn't going to be fired or resign. And if he did, he'd get a giant severance package where he'd have to sign confidentiality agreements ...

but I hope Kraft keeps pushing Goodell to the point of him going all Jose Canseco on that piece of shit franchise ... but this will never happen. Wishful thinking.
The owners should make it clear to Goodell that this shit isnt gonna fly anymore. Demand he keep a close eye on them. Then commence to curb stomping Kraft if he doesnt demand compliance from all his coaching staff.

Ha reports they knew 75% of the plays at home games on offense and defense. No wonder Crennel and Weis sucked everywhere after NE.

Wonder if Nick Saban learned this shit and does it in Alabama.

What's striking about this supposed infraction is the absence of a major investigation. The New York Jets will "sting" the taping of play signals. The NFL will "sting" the deflation of footballs. But in this case, teams chose to create fake scripts instead? As hated as the Patriots were, it never occurred to anyone to put a camera in the locker room and catch this in the act? That's an oddity to me, particularly given how much gossiping goes on between NFL teams.

Yeah, this is where my thoughts are leaning towards too. We know about the tapes. But if Belichick was really doing all these rumored things again and again, for over a decade, and teams were actually de-bugging locker-rooms at NE because they were so paranoid...how was nothing ever found? No team ever thought of pulling a little sting operation over this kind of stuff, stuff that's way worse than taping signals, at that?

Sounds like Goodell covered up the scale of the Patriots spying for the sake of preserving the league's image. Then the Patriots responded by continuing to skirt the rules. They get caught a second time and think they can bribe their way into brushing it under the rug, and Goodell wasn't playing this time.

The first mistake was letting the Pats off easy the first time. The second mistake was Goodell targeting the individual player too much when he should have hammered the organization into the dirt.

Ultimately the nfl suffers the most here. Everyone outside of Pats fans already knew that organization was dirty. But now the integrity of the NFL is even more tarnished as being corrupt in the eyes of many fans. I just hope the next time it's the owners that collectively take action to ensure the league maintains some semblance of sportsmanship and equality.

I doubt the NFL or the NFLPA would condone cameras in the locker room. If they have them its not something you would advertise. Would you want the company you work for to put cameras at the coffee station, lunch or break room or worse restroom?

But if I was a coach of opposing team I would always leave a bogus playbook lying around.

This makes little sense though. The Patriots got caught in spygate and deflategate because Tannenbaum and Ryan Grigson simply spoke to the NFL to warn them, then caught them, and handed the evidence over the the league. That's all it took. So, there are rumors galore and teams are going so far as to try and de-bug the lockerroom to prevent it...but nothing else comes from this? No one pursues this?

The NFL and ESPN seem to have a pretty good relationship. I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL actually leaked this to show that Goodell wasn't just trying to punish the sweet, innocent Patriots. Paint the picture that they're an underhanded organization who tries to cut every corner and deserves to be punished.

OF course the Pats are cheaters. But the more that comes out the worse Goddell looks. And if someone else gets caught cheating and actually gets punished by him he'll look even worse.

He's got to go.

Goodell should get shit-canned.

The initial investigation was a joke, and he destroyed evidence to protect the league.

He is a piece of shit that needs to go.
