Even during his impressive senior season in 2012, few thought he had the makings of a top overall pick, but after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and in individual meetings with NFL teams, it became clear that many NFL coaches loved his toughness and potential.

And the Chiefs love Fisher enough to make him the first player called tonight.

While I don't know if it happened or not, it would be a polite thing to do in case you ever want to sign the player as a free agent. It builds good will. However, that advantage doesn't offset the advantage you get by screwing with the other teams by keeping it a secret.
