Report: KC will select Eric Fisher

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make former Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

The Chiefs will take Fisher with the first pick, a source with knowledge of the team’s plans told PFT’s Mike Florio.

For Fisher, tonight will culminate a rapid rise for a player who grew up in Michigan and couldn’t even get a Big Ten team to give him a shot. Even during his impressive senior season in 2012, few thought he had the makings of a top overall pick, but after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and in individual meetings with NFL teams, it became clear that many NFL coaches loved his toughness and potential.

And the Chiefs love Fisher enough to make him the first player called tonight.

I seriously doubt that. Why would they call a player and tell him they're NOT going to pick him?

MT @Edwerderespn: Source tells me Chiefs have not informed Joeckel that Eric Fisher will be their pick at No. 1 overall as claimed elsewhere

It would stand to reason that they would call Fisher, yes.

they didnt say they didnt call fisher, they said they CALLED joeckell, out of respect to the player.......obviously, they said at some point they were deciding between the two, and have decided. I guess this is difficult........for some....

While I don't know if it happened or not, it would be a polite thing to do in case you ever want to sign the player as a free agent. It builds good will. However, that advantage doesn't offset the advantage you get by screwing with the other teams by keeping it a secret.
