If you were buying a 4X4 Full size truck, what would you buy?

Alas, the 2005 F150 with 175K miles has a dead transmission. $1.5K to $2K for a rebuild. Truck is worth maybe $5K to 6K.

SOOOOOOOOOOO........

Looking for 4X4 full size truck primarily to be used to haul around 225lbs of dog: two Great Danes......and light farm work.

Thinking 2014 or 2015 coming off of a lease.

What is your brand preference and why?

thanks!!

PS: Anybody want a broken 2005 F150? Make ya a great deal!!

Early models of the latest Ford design had some bad electrical problems, IIRC.

Just a great, great looking rig.

Hey Sauto - can you get me one of those beasts for 15K off sticker? (I'd probably be better off if you just didn't answer; I definitely don't need two full-sized pickups...)
Right now?

They are starting at 9k off without even really trying.

I've generally been pleased with our F-150 but we started to run some numbers on it this weekend after the power steering pump went out and I began to question it a little more.

The AC system had to be replaced after the system just started draining coolant onto the floorboards due to poor welds. It had done enough damage to itself that we were able to salvage parts of it but it cost about $900 to fix.

The rear defroster went out and they want $2k to fix it at the dealership (so that's just not getting done). Now the sliding rear window has also broken so we have to make sure to push it back shut in case it rains (no latch on the power slides and it will vibrate itself open).

The brake rotors warped despite having 50% life left on the pads and only 65K miles on the truck. We were advised it's 'a known problem with F-150s'...

The motor on the passenger running board has stripped a gear so every time you stop and start it sits there and spins.

Oh yeah, and now the power steering pump eating shit on the nastiest weather day of the year.

To have fixed everything there has been to fix on this truck (and I'm sure I've missed something) would be around 5-6 grand in 5 years of ownership. My Buddy has an eco-boost F-150 and his motor had to be replaced at 66,000 miles.

Honestly, I'm thinking that maybe these trucks aren't nearly as good as we just always assume they are. Their reputation is sterling and I LOVED my 2000 Explorer. But this truck has been something of a pain in my ass.

I think my next one will be a Tundra.
Sounds about right. In my circle of friends/Co-workers, we view the F150 as a piece of shit. The build quality simply isn't there in our experience.

Yeah, I just saw that. McCosh in town is dropping 6K off and my experience with McCosh is that they're a pack of crooks.

So if they're even taking 6K off, dealerships that actually give a shit will take off a lot more than that. Must be a ton of factory incentives on 'em right now because McCosh won't give you anything off that the manufacturer hasn't paid them for in advance. Shitty dealership.

Yeah it looks as if you wanted a 16 getting them down over 10 k off sticker is the starting point. My guys on line price that is also marked out is 9,500 under sticker. That's with out even haggling

I'm not sure I could ever be comfortable with their engines after the 3v debacle and the way they dealt with it (or didn't lol).

But you guys keep buying them, I've made more money swapping 3v's than any other engine. Maybe all engines combined.

I've probably installed 100 new engines in them. Not even joking. I did one a week in the month of October.

Is that the most recent 5.4 liter v8?

That's what we have in ours and of all the annoying things that truck has done to us, the engine's never caused a problem. Seems like a solid powerplant in my experience.

Pretty sure they figured it out in 08. Which is a long time ago, I know.

I've swapped them out with less than 60k on them.

Just asking, not judging, but is there a reason you can't trade the car on a Daily Driver pickup and sell the pickup privately?

Sounds like you really want a pickup

Marcellus' looks amazing. But the dealership here had a white one, and the front end looked really bad. You need to provide some contrast with the chrome for those front ends. I'd probably kill a man for a dark blue one.
