List your priority for extensions

Listed this in another thread, but it will interesting to see what order we go in here.

The following players will enter their last year of their deal in 2019 or be a FA in the Spring.

Tyreek Hill
Chris Jones
Reggie Ragland
Kendall Fuller
Mitch Morse
Demarcus Robinson
Steven Nelson
Chris Conley

You are Brett Veach. What order of this list is your priority to keep here?

Also I’m purposefully leaving out Dee Ford and Cam Erving bc we know they won’t be here.

Tyreek Hill, I just don't think they will tie up $30+Million in one position with just 2 players.
Reggie Ragland has to probe that he can stay healthy and continue to ascend.
Mitch Morse has to prove he can stay healthy and ascend as well.
DeMarcus Robinson has to prove that he can produce regularly.
Steven Nelson has to stay healthy and play a lot better.
Chris Conley has to show something more than the occasional catch. I am not even sure he doesn't get cut.

It sure appeared as though our OL was better with Fulton at C than Morse. That is saying something in and of itself.

It’s certainly not easy to play C, but that’s why the position attracts the kind of players it does. Typically if you do your job correctly, it’s not common to see teams whiffing on C’s in the first two rounds.

I think it’s worth it. Do what we did in 2014. Keep an Eric Kush type prospect around, have him compete with the draft pick. Keep drafting OL at other positions, too.

I almost want to put Conley, Robinson, and Nelson in a different category because I thinking keeping them is more about if we want them vs. the others where money is a major factor.

That could all change if one of them takes a leap to the next level but I can't imagine those 3 costing a huge amount more than what we would pay to replace their roster spots.

Which ones are FA's next year, and which ones have two more years? That could change the priority list quite a bit.

Morse has been really good. His execution has been above average but what's been really impressive is his work with Mahomes. He's done a great job matching protections to Mahomes calls. You can see Mahomes constantly scanning the defense and barking while Morse is right there in sync with him setting guys.

Morse has done a nice job 'quarterbacking' the OL. My concern is that he's simply gonna be too expensive to keep. You can't give him $8 million/season. At that point your OL is going to be among the most expensive in football. With Mahomes ability to stand in the face of pressure and simply complete passes into vacated holes, we have an advantage on par with what the Pats and Colts had when Brady and Manning could make slag like Ryan Lilja look Pro Bowl caliber.

So if you're asking if I'd like to extend Morse, he's talking me into it. But he's also very possibly playing himself out of our range.

He was actually one I wish they'd have tried to get done this past offseason coming off an injury.

I know it's risky, but it could have saved them some money.

They've got to do something about Houston and Berry. They're using up a huge chunk of the cap.

On the flipside - man Ragland has been disappointing. Part of it has been that the offense has put opposing offenses in pass mode and that's not his strength. But part of it was that I thought he could at least be credible in coverage and frankly he hasn't been.

Then again, Hitchens has been far worse in coverage than I thought he'd be as well. I saw a state somewhere that has QBs something like 13 of 14 throwing into his zones. He simply hasn't been effective at all in coverage. I feel like he has the athleticism to improve there so maybe he just needs reps in that role to get a feel for being in space. But man, to this point he's been almost as big a problem as Scandrick has been (and Scandrick has been a goddamn dumpster fire).

Well, as everyone was giving me shit about them not playing in the preseason and or TC, we see now that it is actually important.

And Scandrick is ass. Just play Tremon Smith and let him take his lumps.

Both could realistically be cut. Berry would hurt in the short term but he's gone after next season either way so we'd be accelerating that damage onto the 2019 cap which isn't the end of the world since nobody's really due for FA in this offseason.

Houston's been an NFL caliber player on a defense that's lacking them, so it would be a painful cut, but we can't carry that cap figure for a run stuffer and occasional QB pressure.
