Quite frankly, the price of a decent couch is a ****ing abomination... 7-8-9 hundred for some cloth or leather and chunks of wood?
One of the biggest rackets out there, no doubt about it, the markup is through the roof. |

Same deal with mattresses. Your basic Sealy mattress will be between $800 and $1000. If you want something like Tempur Pedic, that crap will go for $2-3000 and up.

He gets out and walks around the lot and shop inspecting everything there. It's hilarious. Then he has to go look at the cutlass and short wide in the storage and he's ready to go to daycare and play. |

We were shopping about 6 years ago and ended up doing pretty well with Ashley stuff.
They make honest to god dovetail joints in their drawers. While they will still use veneers, it's at least a real wood veneer and it's over solid hard wood rather than any kind of pressed laminate. Really, they've gotten so good with veneers now that a quality veneer top is damn impressive. I'm pretty sure the bed is all hardwood without veneers. It's a pretty nice mix of price/quality. It's nothing resembling cheap but to get something that's all hardwood you're looking at a $15K bedroom set. This still looks/feels awfully high quality and does so without being insanely high. EDIT: Looks like that's the route you went as well. Yup, not cheap but there's a hell of a lot worse to be found.

A friend of mine who just had a kid said he was going to be paying 265 a week for day care. That's what we get for living just outside DC
