Anybody here ever actually run the 40?

Curious to see if we have any other athletes out here.

I don't have a stopwatch. Maybe I should see if one of my friends does and get some jackass to time me.

What's your 40 time?

i hate to say it but hootie has made some sense in this thread.

i dont know why a coach would tell his players they are faster than they are but it shows every year at the combine when kids are shorter, weigh less, and run slower than we all have heard they are/can.

Link?

Size, and weights, yeah. 40 times? Rarely a huge disparity. And players actually run faster than their projected times as often as they run slower. Some have good days and bad days when they run at the combine.
Size, and weight is usually just game program BS.

Dude, if you ask this question just like a bench press...people will throw numbers out of their ass and make it up. Oh you know back in college or high school I ran this and that. Ran a 4.5. No you didn't. Our high school football team had 10 players who ended up playing division 1. Nobody ran under a 4.5. The guy that was the fastest on the team who would run a 4.51, and well, he played for the Browns. People really have no idea how fast 4.7 or even 4.8 actually is. I got a buddy who has acceleration camps. I would gladly take one of you guys there that claims you run a sub 4.6 and 19 times out of 20 your score will be much much higher than you say.

At the football camp I attended the 40's were laser timed, and there were about 20 kids who did it out of the 250 that attended. This was on the last day of a two week camp, and after the coaches, who were there to specifically work on the players running better 40 times, had two weeks to show everyone the proper technique. To be fair, only one or two of them broke the sub 4.6 mark on the first day of the camp, and none of them ever broke the sub 4.5 mark. And Like I said before, there are a lot of kids who can run fast 40s, but their game speed may be shit, and they may not be able to run at all with pads on. There's a big difference.

I'll tell you this right now...

if you are 225 lbs, strong as an ox, and run a 4.4...you'd get any offer you want to play football anywhere...

our own Larry Johnson was not much of an athlete...I watched him swing a baseball bat and he looked like a damn moron.

he was big, he was fast, and he was strong...that was the extent of it...and we have dozens of people on CP who are/were faster than him!

yeah ****ing right

I don't know. I went to school with Maurice Mitchell. He was the 2nd fastest HS athlete in the nation...and he barely ran a 4.4. So I doubt that many people run even close to a 4.5. Maybe 3 or 4 max.

So, you're basing your contention on the fact that you went to school with a guy?

Okay.

I'm sure that all you insular white guys in the backwoods of Missouri, Kansas and Illinois are absolutely correct: There are maybe one or two guys each year that graduate high school that run 4.5 forty yard dashes and that all the guys that subsequently sign with Texas, Ohio State, USC, Oregon, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Alabama barely break 5.0's, regardless of their positions.

lol, why do we all have to be from the backwoods.

i grew up in wyandotte county.

no one is saying that it doesnt happen, just that the % of people here that say their times are that good just doesnt seem correct.
