49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

With this whole thing out in the open I don't see that as plausible. Have we heard from Alex Smith? The press had taken this thing a run with it but I haven't seen where any party involved has said a thing about it.

It's not tampering to work out a trade in advance. They just can't make it official until March 12. Tampering would be talking to a potential free agent before free agency starts.

Alex Smith is the property of the 49ers, they can say whatever the want
Media can say whatever they want
players can say whatever they want
The acquiring team(chiefs) need to keep quiet until FA or they actually acquire the player.

commenting about another teams players is considered 'influencing'

example: A team can't go to the media and say 'we would love to have the QB of the Green bay packers on our team, he's great etc,etc' because that might encourage Aaron Rodger to explore free agency instead of signing back with the packers.

That isn't what they are doing here because the player has no say in it, so they aren't influencing him. They went to the 49ers (presumably) and said "we hear you want to dump Smith. How much do you want for him?" It's a team to team thing, not a team to player thing.

Smith is a Trent Green QB .. he's just good enough to keep us in games .. the rest of the team has to step-up .. and yes he's a up-grade ... hopefully they can score and the defense plays better this year ... ok now butcher me ... lol .....

I'm not trying to make it seem like Alex is the next big thing. He was the most frustrating player on the 49ers for 6 years. It wasn't until the last 2 that he started to resemble the QB we thought we were getting when we drafted him #1.

I guess my one question for all of you Chiefs fans is this: Are you pissed that you now have Alex Smith as your QB? Or are you merely pissed that you gave up too much to get him?

I'm not here to make you feel better about the latter. Because honestly, if you go look at our forum forums.49ers.com/showthread.php?t=143939 everyone, including myself, feels like we committed a crime by coming away with 2 second rounders.
