*** Official 2017 Royals Offseason Repository ***

The reign is over. Time to begin the quest for the next one.

Interesting offseason opens for the Royals. Will they go all in for one last shot with this crew? Will they re-tool for 2018 and beyond? Will Dayton Moore actually decrease payroll this time?

Trades, free agent signings, rumors, plans, proposals... dump 'em all here, for this is... the offseason repository!

Royals Top Prospects, 2017

This is a list that’s going to seem a little bleak initially, as Raul Mondesi got enough ABs to age out of the prospect rankings (just barely – at 135 ABs, he is not rookie eligible). But that said, I like the talent and feel like this is a system that will actually be underrated by the prospect services.

Spoiler!

All the more reason to keep GMDM here forever. Thank God he didn't leave when virtually everyone (including me) was calling for his scalp a few years ago.

the only thing that needs Ned proofing is the bullpen - which is why I'm scared for 2017

It's worked out well. I hope we can get a little better fortune in upcoming drafts though.

I'm a big fan of Cuthbert. I thought that even two years ago when he got a cup of coffee. He just passes the eye test for me. And last year was only his age 23 season. You can't just write off a guy that young. He's got a ton of room to grow. For me he's a guy we can't trade unless we can for sure sign Moose and Hosmer, or we're 100% sure Dozier is going to turn out okay. I think he's going to be a really important part moving forward in 2018.

I am super skeptical he'll be a solid 2B though.

Interesting...but why would you take Gordo out of LF to play a diff outfield position, guy is a diamond glove winner at his position for the love of Christ.

His thickness is the biggest hindrance in switching. Like DJ I played short most of my life. As a very underclass man I switched to second. The first day our coach moved me to third and said I could never play second because I couldn't turn two that direction. I was moved to third and o keep my bat in the line up and actually had more problems throwing to 2nd from 3rd for the double play. I took it upon myself to spend a week working on turning two from second and moved back to that spot. That year in combo with the older SS set our school record for most double plays turned in a season.

Almost everyone coordinated enough to make the majors in the middle infield can perform the fundamental part at either spot well enough if they put in the time. It's the physical attributes/work ethic that will determine the success.

Of course 3B isn't part of the middle infield and chelsor doesn't appear to have the physical attributes of a prototypical 2nd baseman, but he is coordinated enough and has a much stronger than average arm which might allow him to offset his lack of quickness. I'm also skeptical, but there is a shot it works. If there wasn't a chance of it playing out that way GMDM (who knows way more than Duncan, DJ, and myself) wouldn't be trying it out. He'd just have Cuthbert in the cage all day working on building that house.

That's a bad idea. Alex doesn't have the speed to play center field.

You sure about that? I thought he was decently fast. Would be interesting to see how he stacks up with non-Royal center fielders.

He's not fast. Alex sees the ball well off the bat, but imo he doesn't have the speed to play CF. He could move to RF fine, but I think it would be a huge mistake playing him in CF.

Wasn't long ago there were serious arguments about whether he should have gone for an inside the park home run in Game 7.

He'll be in left field, let there be no doubt. I think the question is can he back-up CF if needed.

He should have went for it but that doesn't mean he's fast. He's not. He should have went for it because Bumgarner was pitching and we weren't likely to get another hit. Those that were arguing that he should have went are saying that because you're hoping for a bad relay/throw home. He would have never made it on a good throw. You're hoping for a Hosmer dash for home in game 5 of the world series type play forcing a bad throw. We'll never know since he didn't try. I think that was a better shot at tying the game than relying on another hit, but who knows.

Sounds like Gordon runs a 4.55 40.
