T.Y Hilton signs for $65 mill

Quote:
ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Indianapolis Colts agreed to a contract extension with fourth-year receiver T.Y. Hilton on Thursday.

The deal is for five years and is worth $65 million -- $39 million of which is guaranteed, agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed.

Hilton's $39 million guaranteed is nearly twice as much guaranteed money as any other player on the Colts roster. Quarterback Andrew Luck is second on the team in that category at $22.1 million, according to the Roster Management System.

"(The Colts) showed interest that they wanted me and I also wanted to be here," Hilton said Thursday. "There's no place I rather be than here. This organization is great. I love being here.

"I didn't want to go into the season with it on my mind. I'm ready to play. (Go) to practice and give it my all."

Hilton, who is part of a talented 2012 draft class by the Colts, is coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance after posting 82 receptions for 1,345 yards last season.

T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett are both strikingly similar receivers. Small and blazing fast. You put one of them on the left side, the other in the slot, a big route runner like Andre Johnson on the right, and one of the best 1/2 tight end tandems in football (Allen and Fleener), and you have arguably the most dangerous passing game in football.

They might make it back to the AFC championship game due to veteran additions in the offseason. However, going forward, their roster is poorly constructed to withstand paying Luck $25M per.

They have a franchise QB. They can do what ever they want with that roster because of Luck.

They are set for years regardless of salaries or players. Something we envy and can only dream about.

With the Pats missing Brady for a quarter of the season and the Broncos on the decline, I wouldn't be surprised to see Indy draw the #1 seed.

Those ****ing assholes...
Totally agree. For the first time they have a reliable every down RB (although old). If Gore stays healthy and gives them 70 yards a game, they are going to control the clock which may mean their defense should play better.

Semi-related note: Luck's numbers will probably drop this year with Gore on the team after an absurd season of playing almost every terrible pass defense in the league. Moncrief is gonna be a strong WR2 pick up.

Having a once in a generation QB is great? Stop the presses.

The fact is their GM has drafted terribly (other than TY) and their roster isn't set to absorb the cap hit. They're not the Seahawks. They play in arguably the worst division, though, so they'll make the playoffs year after year. But that roster has to get better 2 through 53 if they want to win a SB.

The Colts gave up 45 points in the AFC Championship game, then proceeded to draft a WR in the first round, sign a 34 year old WR in free agency, along with a 31 year old running back with a shit ton of mileage, while ignoring their defense.

Indy was the #1 offense last season...what does their GM do? Goes out and gets MORE offense. They are starting to resemble the Vermeil Chiefs...I'm not sure they can get to the SB with the defense they have now. None of their defensive draft picks seem to be contributing....that's going to leave a very unbalanced team once Luck signs his trillion dollar contract. They will always be picking at the bottom of each round considering the quality of their division...and be dependent on F/A. That's not a proven way to build a roster.
.
Makes you appreciate the job Dorsey is doing.

It's going to suck when Pagano loses his job because of it.

Jerrell Freeman, Greg Toler, Mike Adams, Zach Kerr , Eric Walden, and Art Jones are all starter quality defensive pieces. All signed by Grigson.

I like the Hilton deal. I was hoping for more in the neighborhood of 10-11 million per but 13 per beats losing him. He's a tough, intelligent player with elite speed and his route running gets better each year.
