Any reliable single solution to inspect and repair Windows 10
I'm aware of the option of resetting or reinstalling Win10 from scratch, but is there a program or app out there that does a good job of inspecting the OS and repairing any errors or conflicts.

This isn't the matter of a virus or malware. I had the PC on last week and the electricity went out.

Now it takes forever to go into the OS from shut down or restart.

When it eventually settles down, everything seems to work [Office, Matlab, CAD, Internet, Streaming, Audio, Video, etc.] but every 10-30 minutes it will hang with the HD going crazy until I Ctrl-Alt-Del to task manager.

We're talking 30 minutes or more to start up on occasion, and 2-3 minutes frozen in the OS until I access task manager when it hangs.

Clearly it seems something in the OS has been damaged in the sudden power down, probably a pending write operation, and if there isn't a one-stop fix I'll make time to reinstall.

There's not really anything that fits that description, that actually works. Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset 10 is about the only thing I can think of. But that's impossible to find unless you're part of the MS Dev program. I don't think there's a way I can legally share it.

Have you checked Event Viewer to see what your log files say? That's where I'd start.

I just checked my Event Viewer and it just says PARTY!! not sure.

Ah yes, Event Viewer...one of the most worthless things Microsoft has. You can glean some info from it, but rarely does it tell you what's up.

In my lazy experience, I just re-install. Hopefully you don't have a sector on the hard drive that took a crap (or is in the process of taking a crap) when you had the power outage.

Yeah without much more detail, go with the re-install. Even if you get it back up running faster it probably didn't or won't fix your underlying issue.

some boot dll file is causing your hardware to spin and spin to find thAt file and it's not where it's expecting it and since it's poorly written software, it takes over until it finds the file it needs to continue the boot process.

I have had to reinstall once....Windows 10 has been a bit of a PITA to my 5 y/o ASUS desktop computer and at times I have been tempted to go back to an earlier version.
