I haven't read anything about this show and I'm really enjoying it so far, however maybe someone with more knowledge could tell me if this is one of those where its not about what really happened but about this guys life after the murder? I'll keep watching, but I'm enough of a simpleton to want a tangible conclusion about what happened at some point.

Well what do you wanna know? Yeah it appears it's going to be a lot of prison life sort of content, at least for now. Not sure - did you start from episode 1 I guess? - where are you in the series now?

Eventually, I want to know who killed dis bitch. Seriously though, I've watched them all from the beginning and enjoy the story, the cast, and the artsy cinematography. I'm just leery of shows that never answer the question because "it's not about that", if that makes sense.

It does make sense! I DO think that'll be answered or at least outlined so that we can draw our own assumption. But yes, I bet it's going to start to feel somewhat like 'The Wire', esp. since Omar is in it. I suspect the next episode will be lots of lawyer work and more of the behind the bars footage.

I'd be totally fine with getting enough to draw my own conclusion, even if that conclusion varies among viewers. That would be kind of cool actually as I don't need everything spelled out for me. And it seemed that as he was vocalizing the events during his plea hearing, some slivers of memory might be coming back to him. While somewhat far fetched, I am enjoying the jail sequence.
