MELLINGER: Should The Packers Move On From Rogers?

It's been seven years since he won the Super Bowl.

He's 5-6 in the playoffs after that.

OK: So don't kill me. I just think Alex gets a more shit than he really deserves. And the Packers have done a shit job at building much of a defense. Hell if Roger's isn't there, that team's not even close to .500.

Their offense being spectacular is just icing on the cake.
Wait....now points allowed is the measuring stick of a good defense and not yards given up? That wasnt what you were arguing about OUR defense for the last 8 days.

The Chiefs defense held Pittsburgh to 6 field goals, whereas Green Bay's defense went into Greg Robinson mode against Atlanta.

2) Tom Brady shredded a Pittsburgh pass defense that stifled Alex Smith and held him to a QB rating under 70 and under 200 yards passing.

3) The two teams playing in the Super Bowl are ranked 3rd (Atlanta) and 4th (New England) in passing offense. Bubble Screen Alex Smith's passing offense= 19th.

So yesterday just re-confirmed to everyone except for the fanatical Alex Smith Apologists (who still cling to the delusional belief that Alex Smith is a "franchise QB") that the Chiefs will not become a legit Super Bowl contender until production from the QB position is upgraded significantly.
it's not just Alex, it's Chiefs dropping balls, if you can't acknowledge that honestly, then lets not be in the business of analyzing the game.. Also, the entire game plan was different.. and i've said it a thousand times.. KC needs to emulate NE's game plan. Imagine Hill in the roll of Edelman.. good luck.

Raiders had more dropped balls than we did this year and they lit up the scoreboard.

Dropped balls are going to happen to any team. You just need a quarterback capable enough of offsetting others' mistakes. He's obviously incapable of doing that.

But let's be real, our passing offense ain't good.

I agree. There's just been too many WTF plays..that as a football fan.. I just can't see how a QB other than a REAL game changer can over come it.. and you know what.. alex tied the game at the end, it was a bull shit call 100% Even though fans want him gone today.. i really think the FO will look for a potential young gun in the draft and treat this as the last year of Alex being the unquestionable starter.

We can talk about great QBs and all that stuff, but there is one thing that seperates Brady from the other few QBs in his class that has lead to all of the playoff appearances and SB wins. It is what he has allowed the Patriots to do with the fact that his cap hits have been $13 to $14 million a season and it is again next year as well. Not only do the Patriots have Tom friggin Brady but they have him at +/- $5 Million less than per year than the other greats. That definitely allows that team to sign players that the other teams cannot.

Wasn't Rogers sick this week? I thought I saw a report on NFL.com.

Packers also started no named backups across the board at CB.

It isn't always about the QB.

Rodgers is the greatest pure passer in the league. He is going thru what Tom had to endure for 9 seasons -> the expectation of carrying your team to the SB without the defensive personnel to do it. We see this over and over again with high-profile QBs who demand all the bells and whistles on offense meanwhile the defense gets gutted out due to a limited a salary cap. So many talented QBs only have 1 SB to their name despite playing 12+ seasons.

Better QBs don't rely on their receivers to be perfect. That's just ****ing asking for trouble.

If Alex made 2-3 more big plays per game, it becomes completely unnecessary to give a shit about dropped passes.

Also, EVERY QB DEALS WITH DROPPED PASSES.

They are both important but I think ppg is the most important stat when it comes to defense and offense.

Who cares if you are getting a lot of yds if you can't put pts on the board?
