Help Me Pick the Next Blowfish Mobile!

Well, Mr. Jeep is on his last legs. Time to find a new ride. I've driven Jeep Grand Cherokees since 1993. My current is a 2002 with 248,000 miles, and stuff keeps breaking, so time to bail out.

Looking to spend around $25 Grand, and think I can do a Jeep Grand that's maybe 2 or 3 years old for that.

My brother in law has a Ford Edge and really likes it. Don't know if I can swing a brand new car, even thought the financing would be much lower than used.

Any advice as to SUV models I should look at? I don't care about car color, I'm not towing anything, all I care about is will it go through the snow (4x4 or AWD) and I'd like to get heated seats this time.

What say you?

And, for you CPers who work for car dealers, you can PM me if you like, as long as you're in the KC Area, I'll consider what you have to say.

The last car my wife and I bought was from a CPer and it was a very satisfactory transaction.

Can you help a brother out???

Cool, I'll do that tomorrow while web shopping. Edge is one of the cars I'm looking at. I wrote commercials for Joe Machens Ford in Columbia back in the 1980s.

Anybody have a Mazda CX-5? Somebody told me that's basically the Mazda version of the Ford Edge.

Those were awful. Just bad. My grandpa had a mid 80s s-10. It was a joke. It would barely pull itself down the road. Don't judge Chevy on that vehicle.

My buddy's wife had an escape for a short bit. I wasn't a fan but he said it was pretty zippy. He ended up dumping it because it had a crankshaft problem that Ford wouldn't fix. I'd imagine one in the 25k range would be fixed by now.

My friend that lived in Hawaii had a Dodge Caliber. It was pretty doggy ala your 84 s10. It looked decent but I don't think I'd ever drive one.

Quite frankly the new Cherokees look pretty good to me although I know nothing about anything jeep since all their mergers and crap.

The 7 was the Edge when they came out. The 5 is tiny.

Go find a 7 for a test drive. You'll love it.

Just a word of warning about Jeeps. They don't run well without oil.

Several years ago, took my Jeep Cherokee to the dealer for a simple oil change. Picked it up at about closing time and got two blocks before the thing died....and I mean died. So, I hiked back to the dealership and one guy was still there. Told him the problem and he said let's go take a look. Went back, he opened the hood, and checked the dipstick.....he didn't need to wipe it as it was bone dry. Yup, they drained the oil, but forgot to put oil back in it. A new motor was "on them".

BTW, the guy at the dealership who went back to check the car out with me was the "quality control guy". He about had a cardiac when he pulled out that dry dipstick.

Moral to the story: Jeeps require oil.

You should buy a candy-apple red camero with a Chiefs Arrowhead logo on the hood.

That would be cool.

I had a brand new Ford Edge as a rental car a couple of weeks ago, and drove it for a week. They radically changed the styling from the original version, and while I preferred the styling of the original version it was a very nice vehicle.

I could never figure out a few of the things on the instrument panel. For example, if the radio was on you couldn't tell the temperature settings on the heating and A/C. There were a few other things like that that I found a little annoying, but then again I just had the vehicle for a week so I didn't make much effort to learn. There may have been some setting that I just didn't figure out.

Overall, though, it was quite nice.

The 80s was when they were having problems getting quality steel. That is why they switched to galvanized in 85, which was the reason the paint peeled in those late 80 model of vehicles. None of which has been an issue in a long time.

Yeah it is better. Unless it is a Jeep or has a locker those 4x4 are 3 wheel drive in all actuality.
