View Poll Results: Would you swap our 2015 1st for a 2014 2nd?
Yes. I would trade with any team. 4 4.94%
Perhaps, depending on where the pick lies in the 2nd. I'm not terribly interested in taking Seattle's pick 16 19.75%
Probably not. I'd need to see who was available when we made the deal, but I'm leaning towards no 28 34.57%
No. Too risky. You have no clue where we'll pick or what kind of talent will be there 33 40.74%

Would you trade 2015's 1st rounder for a 2014 2nd round pick?

A lot of people (most vocally BossChief) are observing that because of all the underclassmen coming into this draft, there is a logjam of talent extending all the way from the middle of the 1st to the early 4th round. The Chiefs only have 2 picks in the top 100. Also, that is almost sure to figure into a somewhat lousy 2015 class.

Let's say the Chiefs make a deal with the 49ers to get their Alex Smith pick back in exchange for our 2015 1st. Picks at 23, 56, and 87 will allow us to potentially fill all of the remaining roster holes or pick up an incredible talent at a future position of need like CB, DL... hell, even QB.

The possibilities are endless in this scenario. Maybe Dorsey lands a trade down at 23 and picks up more picks. Or maybe a guy like Clinton-Dix or Beckham is available at 1. That 2nd round pick of ours now gives us the freedom to target our FS, passrusher (I'm a huge fan of Jeremiah Attaochu), or another bottom first round talent who is bound to fall into our laps in this deep class.

It gives us a ton more freedom at the top of the draft where we really need it. That's why I'd advocate for it.

EDIT: And as htismaqe pointed out, we've got a crap ton of comp picks in 2015 anyway. It's not like we're going to be starved for rookies or anything.

Poll forthcoming

At this point, though, I don't see many teams wanting to make that trade. If we exchange our 23 for a 2nd, then the team doing the trade up is going to have to cough up a 3rd and more. Only the Rams and Niners have 2 2nds, and the Niners would end up giving us those 2 2nds plus more because they happen so late in the round.

The question is would the Rams give up both 2nds for our 1st? Who would they want? Who would they need that could be available? What would they be potentially giving up without their 2nd rounders? I mean, as I look at that team I see some good players and quite a few holes. It's a very unbalanced roster. If they traded up they'd have 3 1st round picks this year. Is that good for them, or would they be better off with getting the extra player with 4 draft picks in the first two rounds?
I don't know the Rams roster all that well but, I would imagine they like most teams in their position would be better off getting more higher level quality players than just one player that is marginally better. That being said, doesn't mean that a player the Rams covet might have slipped. If the Rams miss out on a WR at the top they might be interested in Lee, Beckham, or Cooks if they are at our pick.

This draft is another odd one that changes the values around from other drafts. I do wish there was a better way to gauge the value of the picks. I have a feeling that our 23rd is more likely the value of the 44th and 75th of the Rams than the 37th and 44th.

The Vikings already had 2 1st round picks last year when they traded from their 2nd (#52) to #29 (Patriots). They gave up:

2nd - #52
3rd - #83
4th - #102
7th - #229

Falcons traded from 30 to 22 by giving up a 3rd and a 6th.

In a heartbeat. The ONLY players that could be on the board that would make me hesitate for a second are one of the top 3 qbs or Eric Ebron.

First round talent in this class doesn't dry up until around picks 42-50.

That's like getting 2 firsts for pick 23.

As for the op, I'd trade next years first for a top 45 pick so fast, it would make your head spin.

That was in a weak class, though.

That pick was cool because I drafted Trufant for them in the cp mock and people said it was a reach.

Alex took a misguided, woebegone, leaderless pile of shit from 2 wins to 11 in just one season... I reserve the right to bitch about many things this year, but signing Smith isn't one of them.

He was worth both of those picks, if last year wasn't enough to sway some people to his current and potential future worth, then all I'm gonna do is stick thumbs in my ears, wiggle my fingers and yell NEANER NEANER YOU CANT CHANGE IT over and over.

He came onto a literal CRIME SCENE and was instrumental in a 9 game swing... if that aint enough, then ****ing NEANER, deal with it.

Why not?

I see it as us having a window of opportunity to try to win something with the group of talent we have that are in their prime and if we can get a top 45 pick this year (in an epic draft class) we can use that to add another weapon that would normally go a lot higher.

Let me ask it another way.

Would you trade Eric Fisher for a top 20 pick in this draft?

In a perfect BossChief world, we would either get a QB or Ebron at 23...or trade down adding an additional second rounder and move picks from next years draft for picks this year.

I suppose there's always the danger that we would Denver it up.

Remember when they traded away their 1st rounder in the next draft for Alphonso Smith, then cut him the very next ****ing season

That's just another example the supports my long term hypothesis about NE coaches going to other AFC teams with the intent of destroying them from within so it strengthens the Patriots brand and helps build BBs legacy.

Tebow and Alonso Smith, really?

Haha ok. Especially after everything they gave up to draft Tebow.

The Chiefs do not have a window. They aren't winning anything. Too many holes on both sides of the ball and they don't have a QB good enough to elevate beyond the deficiencies.

As far as your other point is concerned, multiple dynasties were built on other teams' first round picks. See: The Stepien Rule. There were some really good players in last year's draft. The Chiefs scouting department is tasked with finding the best player for each pick. They failed that task miserably last year.

Ansah, Mingo, Lotulelei, Sheldon, Kenny Vaccaro, and Eric Reid all had excellent years and play positions of extreme need for the Chiefs. I don't think I'd trade many of them for the 20th pick.

The Chiefs are an incompetent organization. It sucks, but it's reality.

I'm not bitching about Alex Smith. I'm saying that saying "there's NO WAY IN HELL Dorsey would trade a 1st round pick", after he traded TWO 2nd-rounders for Smith, is an over-exaggeration. Dorsey absolutely HAS shown the propensity to trade picks, even valuable ones, if he's getting the guy he wants.

You should really read what you're responding to before you respond.
