Gas Grills

I have a Kenmore gas grill and a Weber 22" kettle charcoal grill.

I used my Weber for smoking and whatnot and the gas grill for quick cooking.

The flavorizer bars and the drip tray sheet metal is all rotted out on the gas grill so I need to either replace these pieces or replace the whole damn grill.

I know the Weber gas grills are good but real expensive.

I'd like to find one that has a smoking tray built right in and maybe an infared burner for searing steaks.

I may even consider a Traeger.

Any ideas?

My wife bought me this for my birthday. It is awesome. The push button start works excellent.

Buy one, but it won't help much. Mine still rusted badly within a year even with the cover. Going on year two of a covered Weber Spirit and it's not even got a hint of rust.

I had a Char-Broil once. the 2nd season of grilling, I'm cooking some chicken. I look out my kitchen window and see this black smoke; with sut etc.

I go outside and the control knobs are on fire. .

bought a weber and it lasted 10yrs until i gave it to my nephew for his new house. I also have a Weber kettle that i bought in 2004 and still use it all the time. only thing I had to replace was the grate last year.

Ditto as to the weber genesis. I had 2 other "cheap" grills that lasted 2-3 years each. I had covers for them and didn't help much. 8 years ago plopped down $500 at the end of the season for the genesis. I couldn't be happier. Best money I've spent in years. The wife wasn't so pleased at first, but now fully appreciates it as well.

As everyone else has said: nice sear, 600 degrees with a nice northern wind, even heat etc.

I will say that I will finally have to replace the cover

If you are looking for a pellet smoker go with Green Mountain. More features and better quality than a Treager.

As far as gas grills are concerned you should probably just not.

I have a Weber Genesis Gold that I bought in 2000. The only thing I've replaced are the flavorizer bars and the cooking grates (they get the most abuse). The burners still work perfectly. Oh, the igniter died a long time ago and I've never replaced it. I just use a torch igniter. I've never known a built-in igniter that's worth a shit on any brand. I don't keep mine covered so some of the enamel paint has lost its luster, but hell, it's 14 years old and still grills up a storm.

Edit: My Weber is natural gas. Had to pay to extend a NG line outside. I think it was about $100. Saved that in NG prices vs. Propane tanks several times over.

Shoot, I just run 12-14 coals in a weber chimney with 2 rounds of paper and then toss them on the pile of coals and let it got. At least that has worked great for me the last couple of times. But that table would be nice sometimes.

I have three, but I have one I'd really recommend for what you are wanting.

It's this. The Weber Q200. It's plenty big to cook for 6-8 people, will sear steaks just fine as long as you are using a regular size propane tank, and it's light enough to take in the trunk to picnics, events, etc. You can buy it without a stand as shown in the picture,or get the stand and it simply lifts off the stand to make it portable, in which case, it'll also burn off of the little green propane canisters, but it doesn't quite qet as hot using those. Having said that , I used it with those small canisters for the first couple of years. I've had mine for 5 years and it's money. Also, it doesn't rust and is a quarter inch thick, so it retains heat.

Here it is on the stand with a regular propane tank (fits nicely under it). You can pick one up for under $200

shit, that aint bad. good option for those you usually use charcoal but would want to fire up a gas grill every now and again.

if you call Weber and tell them they will send you a new igniter (or just about any part) free. Even out of warranty.

So over the course of a month I could have 20 different parts sent to different addresses for free and build a new grill?

definitely just spring for a low end Weber. I never used to beleive the hype, then I got a brand new Spriit for $140 at Home Depot on clearance and have loved it. It is so much different than grilling on a POS cheapie. You can actually control it, and it DOES make a difference.
