Talks with Eric Berry for extension 'ramping up'
Per Ian Rapoport. To the few out there who think we don't need this guy for a good price, happy to see that the front office is of course on the right side. |

5 years/50 million with 26 guaranteed is what I expect.

And with a 5 year guarantee, you can apply a June 1 tag after 3 years and cut the guy with doable penalties if need be.
So if the 5/$50 sees $25 million in the last 2 years (as is Dorsey's custom), then the first 3 years will be pretty reasonable with an escape hatch for the last 2.

You simply cannot put a price on what Eric Berry brings to this team and locker room.
If we pay him what Seattle pays Earl Thomas, he will earn every penny on the field and we get everything he brings to the locker room, in leadership and motivation for free. There is no way we could overpay Eric Berry IMO. |

This is a no brainer. He's our draft pick, he's still young and he's our vet leader back there and he's a bad ass. We need this guy because Peters and Abdullah need him.

The defense performed at a similar level without Berry in 2014 as they did with Berry in 2015. The numbers that RunKC posted above are reasonable for a player of Berry's calibre at his position, but anything beyond that is overpaying.

That is because Houston had 22 sacks. That made everyone look better His monster year messed up the stats for the back end. We are better with Berry, no doubt.

You want good players, you pay for good players. What you DON'T do is draft good players and then let them walk when their first contract comes due.
I don't care how much they pay Berry. It's the cost of building a good team.
