Rampage

http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/23/883...hnson-the-rock

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has signed on to star in New Line Cinema's upcoming silver-screen adaptation of the 1980s arcade game Rampage, reports Deadline.

The project has been in the works since 2011, although this is the first major development since its announcement back then. Midway published the original Rampage in 1986; the company went bankrupt in 2009, and Warner Bros. (which also owns New Line) acquired most of its assets.

The Rampage arcade game put players in the role of three monsters — George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard and Ralph the werewolf — attempting to reduce various North American cities to rubble. The beasts faced opposition in the form of military forces bent on stopping the urban destruction. New Line is keeping plot specifics of the film under wraps at this point, but Deadline reports that Johnson's character "gets in [the monsters'] way."

No director is attached to Rampage at this point, although a script by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) is in place. Production is set to begin next summer following Johnson's work on Fast & Furious 8, which is scheduled to debut in April 2017.

Rampage is being produced by Beau Flynn (Requiem for a Dream); he and New Line are re-teaming with Johnson after the smashing success of San Andreas. The disaster movie premiered last month and is currently the year's sixth-highest-grossing film worldwide, with more than $415 million in box office receipts.

For more on the Rampage arcade game, check out gameplay footage below from the 2012 compilation Midway Arcade Origins.

I bet I spent 200 bucks on this game in the arcade in 1991. Awesome game. Should make a new one.

The movie "Rampage" about a psychopathic killer shooting up a small town will be better than this movie.

The game was a blast. But it had about as much "Story" as Pong.

I guess we'll see....

This is what happens when the arcade nerds from the 80's grow up to be executives at movie companies.

If we're just making film adaptations of classic arcade games with absolutely no plot, might as well do Primal Rage as well. Loved that game.

The Rock is the busiest guy in Hollywood right now. Seems like he does 6-7 films a year..which is a lot....lots of traveling too and all of the bullshit that comes w/ that.

I can't think of too many (actually can't think of any at the moment) "videogame-to-cinema" movies that were any good.....at all. I never got into any of the Resident Evil games either.

The Rock should know this better than anyone, he starred in Doom...one of the worst movies of all time. Now he wants a 2nd go at trying to make a videogame franchise a successful box office movie? Good luck....

Didn't think Doom was all that bad. Also Mr. Rock is doing a series on HBO now called Ballers. The previews look really good. He is a retired football player that is now working for a agent... I think.

Midway arcade origins and Namco collection are the only reasons I still have a 360. A year ago I was #1 on the XBL leaderboard for Rampage. The guy that designed Rampage, Brian Colin, did some amazing work. he created Rampage from scratch on ancient equipment (even by 1985 standards). he was the best sprite artist of his era. He also did the sprites/animations for Sarge, Discs of Tron, Max RPM, Xenophobe, Arch rivals, Pigskin 621 A.D., Kozmik Krooz'r, Spy Hunter and Zwackery. General Chaos for Sega genesis was his design too.

i could give a shit about the movie. I might see it if the finished product looks good.

Here's an interview Brian Colin did for the Indoor Kids podcast a couple years ago

he is still working on General Chaos for PC AFAIK
