Not very good pics, but this is the guitar that has been jilted by the Slingerland.

1991 Gibson ES 165 Herb Ellis. I got it used. It might have been a custom order due to the ebony fretboard and cherry red finish, but I don't know. It is early in the first year of the first year of production. These had a fatter neck profile and no Herb Ellis autograph decal on the headstock.

I love this guitar, but it feels like I'm playing a mandolin after playing the old Slingerland.

My advice would be to purchase another guitar, as you'll never be happy with the tone because it's made of pine.

If you don't want to purchase a Mexi or Road Worn Tele, go the "kit" route with Warmoth or Allparts. Warmoth offers super high quality woods and necks but it's far from cheap. Allparts and Mighty Mite are more affordable but it could be hit or miss on the body.

Also, if you desire lower action, make sure to get either a 10-16" compound radius neck or at least a straight 10" radius. That way, the strings will be level and far more playable. Keep in mind though when building you own, the necks usually require a level and dress.

As for P90's, the Lollar's are the best I've ever heard.

Yep! I'm a southpaw through & through. I have them strung lefty.

I tried to learn right handed at first, but it just wasn't working for me. My first guitar was an old righty strat copy strung lefty though.

It's a really cool guitar with an amazing Texas Strat tone. It can definitely be a shredder but I keep the action unusually high for me (I generally like the strings to nearly touch the frets - less than .75mm at the nut) because it forces me to "play harder", which brings out the sound of the guitar.

It's a Randall RM100 MTS series, which are unfortunately, no longer made. I have custom hand wired MTS series modules which perfectly emulate other amps, such as 60's, 70's and 80's Marshall's, Bogners, Fender's, Soldano's, Mesa/Boogies and more. Dave Friedman made a few really cool one off's for me, as did Trace at Voodoo Amps.
No shit! I had my 5150 modded by Voodoo & I even had a couple of their 4x12's on the road for awhile. They were small and compact, but they didn't last too well construction wise - bummer. Definitely worth every penny spent to mod the 5150. In hindsight, I should have never sold that amp but hey, it happens.

I will definitely post pics, I just stripped the paint off the body and tomorrow I"ll be getting set for sanding.

I have too many to post them all, but my three main basses are a Lakland 44-64 Custom, Fender American Standard Precision, and '76 Bicentennial Gibson Thunderbird.

The Lakland 44-64 is badass for being made overseas.

The electronics are made in Chicago, which is where the basses are assembled and they're a great value instrument.

It takes a lot of work, a lot of persistence, and a lot of time to get to the payoff, but there is definitely a HUGE payoff if you stick it out. There is an indescribable high when you are playing great music with great musicians. And when you are doing it in front of an audience that is responding to it even more. And those nights when everyone in the band is in a zone at the same time are magic.

Yeah, I like it better than my MIA Fender. Laklands always have great feeling necks.
