Would Arrowhead's Toys in the Attic sell today?

Was bored when I got home and wanted to listen to some music. So I was perusing and saw Arrowsmith's Toys in the Attic amonst the multitudes of CD's. It's been a long time since I listened to this particular album. But I think it still holds up. Yeah it's Bronco week. **** off. Just wondering.Remember I was bored. And maybe feeling a little old.

Then his best bet is Berklee College of Music in Boston or USC or UCLA film school so that he learns how to compose and produce music for a lifelong career.

Unfortunately, no one cares if you can play like SRV or EVH or whomever. There are a metric shit ton of guys that can do that in LA, in time, one take. It means nothing.

But if he can compose and produce, the future is wide open.

No. Stop it right now.

It'll never, ever, ever happen.

Dead.

It's not being licensed for film and TV, it's not selling albums and it's not selling tours. Even Van Halen can't sell out stadiums anymore and they're relegated to small arenas and amphitheaters.

The young kids and teens are not into guitar driven rock with lyrics about sex and love. They're not. It's a different mindset and a different vibe.
All seems true but rock is not "dead' it will return retro 1 day-

I thought it was dead several years ago while searching for rock, even classic rock last year.

I just might just be old but seems the lines are more blurred than before as far as "genre" is concerned.

Always say I realized I was old when rock was called "classic rock" back when!

Dane is dropping real music business knowledge on you ****s.

The people making the real money in the music business are behind the scenes.

It's rare for acts to be profitable anymore.

A lot of the transition has been self-inflicted. The RIAA ****ed themselves by not embracing electronic platforms earlier. Music used to dominate peoples' entertainment "wallet". Now music competes with video games, youtube, movies, tv, etc.

Edit: Also, pricing. The industry ****ed themselves by not making albums cheaper as production methods got cheaper.

Also, it should be noted that with almost every guitar player who "makes it", there are thousands who don't and have to pack it in sooner or later.

Every legendary guitarist has stories about guys they came up with being a better player, composer, producer, better everything than they were. Even back when guitar driven music was "in" and the record industry was somewhat healthy, it still took an incalculable amount of luck to make it or at least make a decent living at it, and even then that didn't last a lot of the time.

Henry Rollins used to do bits about the people of Hollywood in the music, movie, and fashion industry who took their shot and didn't make it. They were miserable.

Im sorry is there no one out there who makes your jaw drop anymore playing a instrument like the guitar. Does it even matter anymore? And if not that's got to be the saddest statement on the matter of popular entertainment or music at the moment.

Furthermore, there is no direct link between album sales, concert tickets and radio. I used to see songs in heavy rotation in which you'd think the artist sold 10 million records when in fact, they'd not even hit 200,000.

But the bottom line in terms of Aerosmith is that the heyday of that music is long over. Even if Aerosmith put out a record that was better than Toys (which is impossible, especially since they stopped writing their own songs more than 30 years ago), no one would care.
Got to ask is it true that most media (not just radio stations-tv,mags,NP) are owned by very few (I mean 10-20 companies almost worldwide not just US now).

I have always been told that by friends in music, small bands since around the 90's. No number mentioned back then but that was b4 the internet etc.

That would have happened anyway. To get really into music and buy everything could cost 80-100$ a month back in the early 2000's, and that just includes the cds and vinyl. When torrenting came in the industry was doomed.

It still would have ended up in the same place it is now due to the high prices of the music and the fact that people have slowly had their wallets squeezed by the worsening state of the economy over the last 15 years.

Media companies have consolidated so they can remain decently profitable.

Because they allowed their domination of people's entertainment time/budget, they now compete across different forms of entertainment (look at how big the video game companies have gotten).
