The worst thing family does on holidays...

Just interested in things family, in-laws, friends do to meals on Thanksgiving holidays?

Is it packaged gravy mix? Boxed stuffing? Burned turkey?

I've got a few... my father-in-law goes all out. From scratch everything. Except he throws the turkey drippings down the sink and makes McCormick's packaged gravy.

But that's not even the worst. He microwaves his turkey. Not even kidding. It's horrifying. But to be fair, it doesn't taste as bad as it sounds.

We usually go to my wife's parents' for TG but it's a shitload of driving for a couple of days and it is hectic as hell. Dinner itself is ok but my wife and her mother stress out over it for a two days and then it's over within an hour, with everyone stuffing their faces and then heading into the other room to watch football.

Plus, now we would have to drive out of the way to drop our son back at college which adds a bunch of extra driving (he can catch a ride back from here out home instead).

Us to, Frosty. Decided we just wanted to 4 of us this year. I'm really excited about it. Happy T day, everyone

Threads like these make me appreciate my family. The food is good, the people are civilized enough that noone would complain about how something someone else brought was prepared. Doesn't matter though because the food is always awesome and with the exceptions of a couple of extended members I enjoy talking with all of them. There will probably be 60 people at our dinner, it's nice to see them outside weddings and funerals.

We don't have yearly drama to anticipate, but the real fun is picking out the female cousin who has recently suffered the terrible breakup from the douchebag boyfriend we all could tell was a D-bag from 2 FB photos.....Yes, we have that horse this year. Overall, Holidays with our family are drama free and I enjoy their company.

We do have the occasional thing that pops up. A couple of years ago one of the citiy relatives wanted to take their boys shooting, which is fine. The issue was the items chosen and the way they were supervised. Long story short, mom's dog runs in front of a kid with an AR-15 and dies in front of several kids. That was the most interesting event I can think of between turkey and pie in our Thanksgiving history.

I wish more of you were able to enjoy your families. I'm truly lucky in that way, on both sides of my family and brideowanian's family. Good people.

Christmas is more interesting because we have a family dinner with a family group we don't at Thanksgiving. Definitely also good people I enjoy, but I have one uncle whose cheese has partially slid off of his cracker and he decided he is a preacher who has had 5 near death experiences....His after dinner slide show is always good for some eye rolls and back table jokes. That's the worst I deal with and it's pretty tollerable because it's funny.

Boo! Bob Dole's mom just finished making her 18/36 for today.

i celebrated a prethanksgiving tradition last night.

Once apon a time I returned from college for Thanksgiving break. Due to some health issues I hadn't touched alcohol in more than a year. I met up with a couple of my thunder buddies at a local bar that night. A little while later, a 7-7 found it's way in front of me and the fiesta began. I don't know how many I drank but thansgiving morning I woke up wiht my friend's dad standing over me...he's a true cowboy with a big as moustache and serious demeanor. I said "Bill, what in the hell are you doing in my room" and he laughed and said something like "look around dumbass"...and I realized I was on my buddy's couch at 11am on Thansgiving. My buddy took me home, I opened the door and barfed in the driveway in front of half of my uncles and snuck around the house and came in the basement. Momowanian thought I had been asleep down there I guess, until she saw how terrible I looked. I had 3-4 saltine crackers that year for Thansgiving Dinner.

For several years, the same 3 of us would get together the night before Thansgiving to drink "14's"....a tradition.

3 years ago, a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving my buddy died in a pretty tragic way.

Because of my bi-annual holiday travel agreement I can't do it every year, but last night I picked up the 3rd part of our trio and went to the same bar, ordered 3 (14's) and sat at the table we sat with him and had a couple for the old days. That's our bonding Thanksgiving tradition.

Part of our pre-marriage conversation was me stipulating that we retire from the Army in an area far away from family and that holidays were always to be done at our house under our rules. 15 years of wedded bliss later it was a good call. And we love KC.

She cooks the mac until it's overcooked, then adds the imitation cheese, milk and eggs, then bakes it until it's burnt.
