Welp...Laid Off Today

joy.
the project I've been working on for the past 2 years is winding down, and the client wanted us to reduce head-count. So, myself and three others were let go today.

Damnit!!
Though, my boss told me to update my resume and send it to him. he knows a good friend of him who is Director level that is looking for people. I believe him, and don't think he's blowing smoke up my butt. I've either worked with him/for him or been in contact with him over the course of projects since 2002.

So, we'll see about that. Another young guy at work, texted me and let me know his dad is a manager at his company so I'll get my resume in his hands as well.

I hope I find something soon. My wife took a huge pay-cut last year (around35%) because her job at the time was causing exacerbations with her MS due to stress.

hopefully I won't have to dole out handy's behind the 7-11 for cash.

Not in my opinion... Most companies will train you and send you to their school for free in LTL

If you can pound the patio (work the dock) and express your desire to drive, you can see where that leads... Your age makes you a better prospect in my mind...

You have to have a great driving record and no felonies at all ever.

Lots of bridges to burn... I am considering a change myself after 20 years , the business is not what it used to be and the rules are stricter by the day.

n00bs know no difference, us old timers are tired of the bullshit

Sucks, I literally had my contracting agent find me a job the day after I found one on my own. Would of took it too, more money and single women. But the job I took was more secure.

Find a contracting company to find a job for you. There are high end ones that will get you 45k plus.

I wish I 20 again; I would have went to culinary school.
You'll probably tell me to FO and die but when I got laid off it was the best thing for me.

I hated what I was doing and desperation forced me to take work I never would have taken otherwise.

Now I'm a state employee, with job security, and work so hard I've gained 30 lbs the last 3 years.

Be positive, work hard at whatever you do next, and keep your ears open for opportunities you might not expect...

It's never too late dude. My mom worked labor jobs until she was 32 and decided to go back to school to pursue her dream of being a nurse practitioner. Before that we were dirt poor and her and my dad were non-existent as a couple. She put herself through school while supporting 3 kids by herself in the process. Now she is doing what she loves 15 years later and my sister and brother want for nothing.

Point is, if it'll make you happy, and you want it bad enough, you can make it work.

Damn that, sorry. And this is an example of exactly why I refuse to replace my permanent hire position with a contract position that pays a lot more. They love to **** contractors and it sucks. I know in todays corporate world you are always expendable but the love to pick on contractors. Hate that and hope you find something good soon.

Thanks gentlemen. Today was a pretty good day. got some leads, and have 2 calls set up tomorrow. Though, one of the guys that contacted me was about a job in Chicago lol. Don't think that'll work out for me. Short of figuring out some weekly commute etc.

yep. Though I have gained permanent employment via contract on 2 other occasions, it seems that in the wireless industry at least, the contracting route is becoming more and more 'popular' with companies. which sucks.
