The witness says the man then pulled out a gun and shot McKnight -- and while standing over him screamed, "I told you not to f**k with me" ... then fired another shot into his body.

McKnight was a high school phenom -- considered the best running back in the country. He played college ball at USC. He was drafted by the NY Jets in 2010.

I am sick of this stuff in New Orleans. I moved to the burbs a few years ago. I never go into the city anymore. I can't tell you the last time I went to the Quarter. That area (across the River from the city) where he was shot was a good area before Katrina. Now there is a murder(s) everyday. All the dregs from the projects, that were torn down, moved there. The Mayor just wants to bring down Confederate Statues and not deal with the murders. I thought I became numb to the murders....

I usually get down to Arrowhead once or twice a season. Bringing the whole fam damily down for Broncos/Chiefs on Christmas. I know the idea of a Christmas spent in KC might be lame for the locals, but my young sons are looking forward to it. They already wrote a note to Santa "redirecting" him to KC for Christmas eve..... LOL.

As like most areas of the United States, violent crime is down. In this specific area, it appears per statistics that crime is now below pre-Katrina levels. I went to New Orleans 2 years ago, stayed in the french quarter. Can't say much about the rest of the city but I went all over the quarter and felt pretty safe.

I was down there for Mardi Gras. When I saw where this happened I can't say I was too surprised. It sucks. New Orleans is a fun city, but it obviously has its problems.

I really liked McKnight. I was hoping we would give him another shot after his injury
