1. ILB - No DJ and not much to write home about otherwise. Mauga could be retained for 1 more year however.

2. QB - It's highly unlikely the Chiefs can/will retain Foles at his 2017 price tag and there is not a clear heir to Alex.

3. S/NT - I'm reserving this slot in the event either Berry or Poe is not retained. Also, Sorensen is an RFA so we'll see if he is also retained.

4. OLB - Tamba Hali is all but done, and I see him retiring. The Chiefs need to replace their #3 pass rusher, and we've all seen how important that has been the past 2 seasons.

5. OT - I can't fathom Jah Reid being retained, so KC will need a backup tackle. If Reid is retained, the Chiefs need a backup tackle.

6. WR - The Chiefs will have to add a guy here as depth I think. I doubt they retain Wilson for 1.7 mil.

7. RB - The Chiefs probably won't retain Jamaal Charles at his current price, nor should they at anything near it. If that's the case, I bet they are shopping for a 3rd running back.

8. OG - The Chiefs should draft someone to push for a starting job, but if not they should at least bring in someone to push Fulton for the backup job.

9. CB - Before Terrance Mitchell started playing well, I would have ranked this #1. Mitchell locking down the outside has also improved Steven Nelson by moving him to the slot. The Chiefs have a good looking stable in the current alignment, but could use another developmental long corner.

I do not view TE as a need, but if they take advantage of the class being strong then they need to look for a stronger blocker at the #2.

You're completely comfortable rolling into 2017 with Mitchell as the #2 CB, kccrow?

I probably don't have to remind you why you should be more reticent.

Absolutely. Mitchell is playing lights out defense. He's playing better ball than I saw Smith play when he was here. Some guys just need to end up in the correct scheme to match their style, and I feel like the Chiefs have done that for Mitchell.

Add in that D.J. White has had this season to mature and learn his placements plus will have a full offseason, yeah I'm comfortable.

If you use your theory of being reticent, then we should never draft another QB in round 1 in the history of the franchise. We should never draft another DT from LSU. The list goes on. I'm not scared of past failures.

I'm just saying.

It's wise to get health insurance if you've been hit by a car before.

We were smacked in the face by Cooper's failure in 2014. People forget Cooper was arguably playing better at the end of 2013 than Mitchell is now.

Considering 3 players started games this year before him, I think we're good.

Gaines getting healthy and being a reserve is probably good for him, but still solid insurance. Nelson playing the slot has improved his play, but still insurance. White developing and learning the defense more thoroughly will help him with the out of position issues he was having and he still played decent ball in spurts as a rookie. And to top it off, Mitchell isn't a rookie that you're banking on not having a sophomore slump. The guy has been in the league a few years now. I plan to take Awuzie out of my next mock and I don't think I'll put a CB in it. Murray could play CB if need be as well. So can Parker. I'm not sure how many guys you need at the position to be happy. Mitchell is playing good ball. There are guys there that can step in and be solid players. I'm not worried about what Marcus Cooper did or didn't do. And, btw, Marcus Cooper has had a really solid season in Arizona. Change of scheme can do wonders for players.

No he wasn't. Stop comparing Mitchell to Cooper. I told you all at the time that Cooper was too soft for this D. That he was no good. It was ****ing obvious to anyone who actually watched him, instead of getting all mushy over a couple of gimmie INTS.

Just because CP had an undeserved stiffie for Cooper doesn't mean that he's anything like Mitchell.

I like this list. Only change I would make would be to push RB higher up on the list.

I can easily make an argument for these positions to be changed, but as of this second that is how I feel.

Swap QBotf with WR, and I'm solid with this list.

That's not necessarily the order I'd take those guys in due to positional value, but that's how I see the most pressing needs.

I'm surprised to see OLB so far down the list. Granted ILB is a need that is by far the biggest on the team, Dorsey and his Packers colleagues never put the position that high on the draft list. The highest ILB I can think of was Bruce Wagner.

I look at this class and I see Ryan Anderson, Carl Lawson and Solomon Thomas as real options here that present tremendous value. I see Justin Houston's history of getting hurt often since Andy stepped foot at Arrowhead. I see Dee Ford having an injury filled career at Auburn and battling a few nagging injuries this year.
Most importantly, I can't get the disgusting picture of Frank Zombo rushing and a tackle holding him at bay with relative ease.

I think another strong pass rusher can be a huge asset down the road and would make this defense even better.

I think people fall into the 'just get more pass rushers' trap a little too much.

Ford and Houston will be here for another couple of years at least. And while I'm fine looking at depth guys to put behind them, I think we need starters at all the positions ahead of OLB (as I'm still not confident Berry is back), with the obvious exception of the developmental QB.

Just stacking high-value draft picks behind each other doesn't help much when you're in a situation where you can win a championship right this very minute and have a number of places that need to be firmed up.
