Predator Reboot?

I have not seen anything about this.

The Predator Reboot Will See This Major Change To The Classic Character

For a franchise that really only has a couple of proper installments, the Predator films have a strong following. When Shane Black announced his intention to direct the next film in the series, most fans were cautiously optimistic. However, when franchises change hands, it’s a forgone conclusion that some things will change. Black has now begun to speak about how his film, The Predator, will be different from its predecessors. The primary change will be cosmetic, as the Predator costume is getting changed up.

The original Predator was designed by legendary Hollywood makeup effects creator Stan Winston, the man responsible for everything from Terminator 2: Judgement Day to John Carpenter’s The Thing. Over the decades, the Predator has become as iconic as any of them. As such, it might be concerning to some fans that the look is going to be changed. However, Shane Black tells ComingSoon that he won’t be the first to make changes to the original design, and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be doing anything drastic to it.

Quote:
It’s not to ‘improve,’ it’s [to] make it fun, make it different, make it organically different. So what’s the extension of it that makes sense, that’s exciting? There have been a lot of changes to Stan’s design over the years. These different Predator movies have done different things. Ultimately it’s not about design to me, it’s about the story you want to tell. There are people who are always going to agonize over Iron Man, what color his suit is. Maybe this weapon does a new thing, but if the story is not good I don’t give a sh*t what color the suit is. In The Predator we’re doing a lot of upgrades to what you would consider to be the traditional Predator technology and look, but hopefully the story is what’s going to drag people in, not just the attention to the minutiae.

In the end, we’d have to agree with Shane Black. The story is going to be the key to the film. Whether the changes to the lead monster are extensive or "organic" is less important than the question of whether or not the narrative is any good. Sure, some fans will nitpick minor modifications, but if the movie is good, it will be easier to overlook those things, and if the story is bad, strict adherence to the classic character won’t change that.

We’re certainly looking forward to getting our first look at the new Predator. If both the look and the technology are getting changed up a bit, then The Predator will have several new surprises for us. Are you excited to see them?

I dont know why people get all pissy over reboots. it doesnt take anythign away from the original. Worst case senario is it sucks and you lose 90 min of watching a movie. We have all watched many crappy movies.

For me, with movies, if they are half ass entertaining i am fine with it. If it sucks. ill just shut it off.

Excellent point.

A movie works or it doesn't. This isn't 1970, 1980 or 1990, in which we all went to the movies completely blind. Back in those days, the "critics" were almost anti-movie, so reading a good review of a fun a blockbuster movie was nearly non-existent.

There are dozens of reviews online before a film like this even opens, so you can make your decision to see it well in advance.

I agree for the most part. But reboots to push an agenda (see: Ghostbusters volume: feminism) is ****ing irritating. Mostly because it seems as though EVERYTHING is trying to push an agenda.

Tell a good story - it doesn't matter what it is - and I'm in. Set out to "educate" the audience, **** you.

I'm not anti remake - I'm anti bad remake. If I like movie X, and Hollywood churns out a half dozen increasingly inferior and less profitable rehashes of "X" then eventually the money guys will decide "People just don't like X anymore."

**** Hollywood for churning out so many shitty movies.

**** the brain dead audience for rewarding them by continuing to go see so many shitty movies.

It seems as if reboots are generally not good movies.

When people see "reboot" they already expect shit because that is generally what happens.

There are exceptions, of course.

The important question is whether it's an all-female production.

There are exceptions, of course.

There are far more 'Poltergeist' type remakes than 'Ocean 11' types.

I'm a fan of all things Predator. I've even read all of the AVP books.

Predators had a really great premise but they kind of missed the mark on it. I have to say I wasn't a fan of the new race of predators. I'm also not a fan of Adrien Brody and Topher Grace or whatever their names are..

I am guessing the Predator will be a transgender lesbian Mexican to fit in with the PC crowd.

I thought Predator 2 was a huge missed opportunity...loved the premise and that movie still holds a special place in my heart even though it's panned across the board.

Anyways...The Rock has to be the lead in this.....right?

Predator 2 was great, it did not have the iconic lead star like Arnold. It gave us tons of new toys like the spear, net gun, disc for the predator.

Predators was good as it gave us another more badass race of predators. Wish they were doing a sequel off of this. Maybe have the two remaining hook up with a new group of killers including Arnold to get off world.

The ones I did not like were the AVPs as they were not rated R. Outside of the Predator with the dual shoulder cannons they were lame.

Speaking of missed opportunities, AVP really blew it. The Preds looked like 7' dwarves with all the gear in AVP. Not to mention 2 of the 3 died within the first 3 minutes of meeting the aliens.

Requiem atoned for the Preds a bit but it was so ****ing dark you couldn't see shit.
