PFT: Unhappy with Chiefs, Houston hopes to attract an offer sheet

Quote:
Mike Florio, ProFootballTalk

It’s highly unusual for franchise players to be signed to offer sheets, because teams regard any unused first-round picks as potential Hall of Fame players. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston could become the exception, for various reasons.

First, he enters the process after completing a 22-sack season. No player with that kind of performance has been available on the heels of it, with or without compensation.

Second, he’s motivated to move on. Per multiple sources, Houston is very upset with the Chiefs. It’s believed that he’ll actively solicit an offer sheet in the hopes the Chiefs won’t match it.

I would love to keep houston Ling term, I think he's an elite player.

But you can't hamstring yourself down the road. I'd like to see them make room this year and give him the big deal Now and just absorb the hit this year.

The guy said he would immediately sign the tag if he got it just a few weeks ago and now won't sign it till week 10? Is mad at KC?

This is negotiating in the media by Houston's side.

Restructure Alex and Hali and front load Houston's new deal with the money.

Alex Smith isn't worth $17M. He isn't a transcendent player worth top dollar.

I could repeat that over and over with players Dorsey has signed.

Alex
Daniel
Fasano
DeVito
Walker
Mays
Bowe
Bailey
Mauga

And so on.

We're in the position to let good players walk because we're blatantly overpaying guys that aren't anything special. Hell, they're so special we've already cut 3 on that list to make room for more.

Alex Smith is not being paid as a transcendent quarterback. It is interesting to see Bowe appear on your list, though, as he was one of the players (Brandon Carr being another one, and how's that working out for Dallas?) many on this site were demanding be kept at pretty much any price.

THIS!

What player likes being "tagged" with the franchise? It's just business. They want to make it personal, thats on the player. It's not on the team to give a great player everything they want to keep them happy. Thats just not true in the 2015 NFL. Poor contracts can impact the winning on the field. You need to be double down sure on any long term contract.

Brandon Carr, Albert were allowed to walk and looking like it was the right decisions. We cant keep and pay everyone. That being said, Houston is frekking awesome and he needs to stay.

In no way is two firsts worth the price. Remember who is selecting these players, Fisher and Ford are who they deemed the best available player at the time... I'll take one Houston over two more broke dicks.

Alex- 4 years 68m going rate for an AVG QB
Daniel- 3 years 10m not bad for a backup QB
Fasano- 4 years 16m but he only cost the Chiefs 2 years 6.6m and 2m in dead money in 2015
DeVito 3 years 12.6m If the Chiefs cut him they save 4m in 2015
Walker-3 years 10m In the end really only a 1-year deal worth 3.75m
Mays - Ended up costing the Chiefs 1 year 2.9m
Bowe Most here loved the deal when he got it. After last year, it now looks's bad but no one saw that coming.
Bailey- Bailey huge cap number year will be 2018 which he'll never see.
Mauga- 3 years 8m which I'm willing to bet is a back loaded deal which = a cheap 1-year deal.

And so on.

We're in the position to let good players walk because we're blatantly overpaying guys that aren't anything special. Hell, they're so special we've already cut 3 on that list to make room for more.

I'd pay Hudson as the 5th highest paid center in football, no more. This 9m per stuff is just nonsense. The team that signs him to that much is going to regret it down the line.

Alex Smith got like the 10th highest contract for a QB, unfortunately that's a large sum...but in no way is he being paid as the best at his position and neither should Hudson.

Let me ask you a legit question...

If Hudson is so good at his position...why do his line calls constantly leave guys completely unblocked? He should be making the guards around him look better and they were flat out horrid.

At this point I take the two first rounders. This team has some massive holes to fill.

If he bitches up and doesn't sign the tender, or he does sign the tender and doesn't play at his elite level, he's not getting long term big money deals from anyone.

Guy is awesome out on the field, but if he cant get his panties out of a twist and do his job for one year at an insane salary of damn near a million bucks a week, **** him.

If you're Dorsey, aren't you pretty much obligated to take that deal?
He doesn't get paid until he reports so your entire scenario is useless. Not surprisingly.
