We can argue either way. There was a lot communicated in his post game comments beyond the verbal transcript. I guess it just bothered me that you have Goins over there, head-in-hands, facing the music. And Bautista had a chance to show support for his teammate, but didn't. Those are opportunities you don't get back.

I do see your point. I also genuinely think Bautista thought the best thing to do was not to say anything at all and give the media nothing to work with, though. He knows better than most about their propensity to twist words and use soundbites without context, he's had a pretty contentious relationship for years with them.

This could also be said of the play. It was a fairly routine catch for Bautista to make but instead he let an infielder call him off the ball. The outfielder should always make that play. You learn that in little league. That's why Goins got out of the way. He was probably wondering the whole time where the **** Bautista was since it was such an easy ball to get to, so when he heard someone from the stands call him off he instantly got out of the way. Sad to see he has to take the blame for that play when it's definitely 100% Bautista's lack of hustle that cost them that game. You said yourself you played in the outfield. Did you not have a coach when you played to teach you the basic fundamentals?

Close. And on second thought, I think this is something I'd rather keep to myself in this forum. I quite like keeping my day job separate from this place.

Yeah, I absolutely get that. In normal circumstances, you'd want the OF calling off Goins. But what you probably aren't aware of is that Bautista has become a terrible RF defensively as he has aged, which has led him to screwing up plays like that quite often. As a result, Goins began calling for every single ball in that "no man's land" area last year (which became the new normal for the Jays). He had done it countless times prior to that play in KC in 2015 and he has done it plenty of times since then. It was only in game 2 that he backed off, though.
