The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

All this is wonderful except for the part that KC has had a good LT. One that wants to come back and even at a slight discount. It's like everyone sees a LT and says "oh take that" without actually looking and seeing if the team needs one.

The **** is wrong with fans of teams like the pats and niners..? They seem to genuinely think that picking brady or picking kaep was this ****ing great master plan set out by their franchises and every team should emulate it. The funny thing is, is for every patriot and 49rs you have a bunch of.teams like the chiefs or bills or cardinals who have been doing.it.for years and getting diddly ****ing squat for results.

WE HAVE TRIED IT YOUR SO CALLED RIGHT WAY. FOR 30 ****ING YEARS WEVE TRIED IT THAT WAY! Excuse us if we want to do it another way.

let me take a moment to be honest here -- I don't want to wait 3 years for Geno to become a good QB, I think this Chiefs team is good enough to beat a team in the playoffs right now if they have a good QB. There are a few folks that agree with me and they still need to draft Geno. But get a good veteran QB in here now and make some damn noise in the playoffs before DJ & Hali get too old for this shit. You never know, when a team gets hot in the playoffs it can be the momentum that wins it all.

Taking a QB tho at the top of the draft when there isn't one really worth the pick is how the 49ers drafted Alex Smith to begin with. It only took 5 or 6 years for him to turn it around...lol.

And just where would you suggest they get a "good" veteran QB?

The guys that are really capable of winning playoff games aren't available.

Sigh. When you get a coach who can recognize potential, you can make moves like that. The 49ers didn't "stumble" into ANYTHING. They knew who they were talking. They traded UP in round 2 to get him.

BTW..taking a QB at #1 can be the RIGHT thing....IF HE'S WORTHY OF THAT PICK.
In hindsight Kap was worth the number 1 pick and your coach ****ed up by risking not getting him

You are right in that I can't relate to not having a great QB...since like Len Dawson...

...but I'm not talking from a historical perspective. I'm talking about having the 1st pick, you need a QB badly, and its not percieved as a great year for a QB.

What would really suck is if you take Geno Smith and then Barkley gets taken 22 picks later and becomes the best QB in the NFL while Geno just struggles.

THAT sucks. LOL. I wanted Rodgers on draft day. I'm a Cal fan. That was a painful day. LOL.

So Frankie would only draft a Qb at 1 if he's Andrew Luck or Manning? Good to know.

Really?

Aldon Smith has 33.5 sacks in 2 seasons.

Quite a screwup.

What a ****ing load of shit. If the niners knew he would.turn into what hes become they would have taken him over Aldon. You took a guy with potential because u had a stacked team. You are lucky it worked out.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

Aaron Rodgers went in that SAME draft? How many teams are kicking themselves for letting him slide all the way to GB? That's the problem right there. YOU think like THOSE teams, and do you see how far it got them?

WTF is wrong with you?

I don't care how the **** it's percieved. Geno Smith is well worth taking a shot on at one. Taking a LT at our spot would be historically dumb. ALL these position guys have warts as well, people just think that those kind of guys are can't miss and it's just not true.
