2018 Paid Media Consumption

Purely out of curiosity, I was wondering what kinds of media people are using these days. I read a stat the other day that over half of U.S. households are paying for at least some form of streaming media these days, so it'll be interesting to see how CP compares.

Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix.

I also think my wife has Spotify Premium but that may be an introductory offer only.

I'll definitely sign up for Disney's new streaming service in 2019 and I have all of my recent movie purchases linked to Movies Anywhere, although the overwhelming majority have been purchased through VUDU (which is now no longer necessary).

I still pay for cable but none of the premium channgels.

We still have DirecTV for our TV service but we're looking to transition to a streaming service. We do have Amazon Prime and Netflix though. Like Dane....we also have Movies Anywhere which is a godsend with the FireTV and the kids.

For music we use Pandora and Apple Music. We have SiriusXM in the car but that shit is getting ridiculously overpriced now at $400 a year.

I'm a cord cutter, so I have quite a few. Currently, my arsenal consists of:
  • Netflix
  • Amazon Prime (don't use it much though)
  • Hulu
  • SlingTV
  • Spotify

On top of that, I also use the following:
  • YouTube (I probably watch as much random YouTube shit as anything these days)
  • Pandora free for random background radio
  • MLB.tv or NHL.tv if the Avs or Rockies are worth watching
  • Vudu for purchasing movies (and using cheap Ultraviolet codes)
  • Plex for a few things that can't easily be...procured...otherwise

Yeah, that's a good one. I stuck to paid sources for the poll just because there are a bazillion free sources of good content out there, but I loosely try and keep up with probably a dozen podcasts.

I swapped that in for YouTube Red in the poll. I didn't even realize those weren't the same thing.

Oh yeah, I have MLB.TV again this year, too. I'll occasionally use Spotify to listen to new releases but I'll purchase immediately if I like it.

Right now, I've got a crazy deal with Direct TV in which I have every single service and one DVR for $55 a month for the calendar year but I hate their satellite service these days, as the box is slow, pixelates and freezes from time to time.

Once NFL Sunday Ticket is available for Direct TV NOW, I'll make the switch.
