It should also be factored in that he wasn't all that great his last time starting. 4 runs and 70+ pitches in 4 innings, including the first HR he'd allowed in months. If he struggles tonight, it's part of a bigger pattern than the idea his psyche was rattled Tuesday.

I know it's so awesome. I wish it was 9:30 PM, though. The later the better.

Heh...good ole Skates.
I remember one game Lonnie (who used to play left). Was about medium deep in left. A high lazy fly ball was hit in his direction. He immediately broke back on it like he was going to have to snag it over the top of the fence. He brakes suddenly, realizing that the ball is hanging up and the wind is pushing it back towards the infield. So he makes a mad dash forward, realizes he over-ran the ball, sticks a cleat in the ground, twists his ankle, and as he'll falling ass-backwards, reaches out and catches the pop up in the webbing of his mitt as far back as he can reach, just before the ball hits the ground. It was a remarkable catch. Even more remarkable was, if he would have just stood still and reached his arm up, the ball would have come to him in his original position. Gotta love Skates. Even though he was a clown show in the outfield, Skates was a winner. He won WS rings with the Phillies, Cards and Royals. Not many guys have rings from three different teams. I posted this when the Royals were struggling this season.
Now, imagine Fassel saying 'world series' instead of 'playoffs.' |
