Alligator drags child into water at Disney's Grand Floridian hotel

Wow

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...614-story.html

Deputies were searching late Tuesday night for a toddler who was dragged into the water by an alligator near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa earlier in the evening, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The 2-year-old child was dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon about 9:30 p.m., Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rose Silva said.

Deputies were searching the waters and put crime-scene tape around area to block it off. Multiple emergency vehicles filled the front drive of the Victorian-style hotel and a helicopter hovered overhead.

The child, whose name was not available, has not been found as of 11 p.m.

Some witnesses said they saw the toddler along the beach near the water, but no eye-witnesses to him being dragged into the water by an alligator were available for comment Tuesday night.

The hotel is an upscale luxury resort owned by Disney. It is one of three hotels on the monorail line, just one stop away from the Magic Kingdom Park.

Hotel guest A.J. Jain and his family were visiting Disney from Georgia and said he and his kids were playing on the beach near the scene of the incident earlier Tuesday.

“I’m just here to say a prayer,” he said. “I can’t imagine what those parents are going through. It’s been one tough week in Orlando.”

It is not clear if the missing child was staying at the hotel.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

He saw it grab his kid. He tried to get it to let up. There's no defending the dad that is necessary. I'm sure he probably did the responsible thing since he has other kids. My over emotional ass would be in the lake biting, scratching for eyes, trying to get under its belly, punch it's dick, whatever I could do. The most likely scenario is me and my kid both end up dead, which would be doubly ****ed for my wife and other son but I'm just not sure I could help myself.

I think most on here and everywhere else in the world for that matter would have no issues sacrificing their lives to save their kid.

Only even slight chance would be to get an eye gouge in on the gator or a solid well placed punch to the snout.

Supposedly the punch on the top part of the jaws in the front part might trigger a reflex to loosen the death grip. But, they would still keep going after you.

I saw a gator going after a bird one time. It was a 4-6 foot one. So a below average one. I was blown away by how fast and quick it moved. No way a human could have outrun that alligator in that short of a distance if that would have been a human rather than a bird.

I was wondering about that. How long could you 'bear hug' a gator before it turned and tried to take a bite out of you?

I don't think you could forcibly get the gator to let go of anything; their bite pressure is immense. But at what point can you simply irritate them into turning their attention to you?

Having never so much as seen a wild gator, I have no idea. Ultimately, I'd have probably tried to gouge some eyes and then simply wrapped my arms around its neck and held on for as long as it took me to pass out (I figure around 60 seconds would be my best guess).

By really, the guy probably just punched it's hide a couple of times before it got away from him and then submerged. That would explain the scratched up hands. Practically speaking, there probably wasn't much more he could've done having not really though to himself that morning "what will I do if a gator eats my toddler..."

Yeah, you're not out-running a gator like that. But I did hear quite a few times that a well placed eye gouge might do the trick. But other than that, you are in trouble.

At least they've found the boy's body...for the purpose of closure. The body was apparently intact and found not far from where the alligator attacked.

Just terrible.

This, jaws that are locked up as long as he is alive. You would have to have a 6" hard steel blade knife and stab it in the right place to get the gator to release the kid, by then, the kid has already drowned.

Remember, none of us is Tarzan here, we would go down trying, only luck wins here.
