Chiefs In Driver's Seat -Need for A QB Leads Suitors To Go After Chiefs' No. 1 Pick
Take it for what it's worth, but this article came out on Yahoo today.
"Could desperate need for QB lead suitors to go after Chiefs' No. 1 pick?" http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--co...082652681.html "As quarterback quandaries play out around the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs hope that one leads to enough desperation for a team to trade up for their No. 1 overall pick. Could one such bidder be the Oakland Raiders, owners of the No. 3 pick, where quarterback Carson Palmer appears willing to force himself out of the franchise? "I certainly hope so," one Chiefs source said Thursday when asked about Palmer and whether his uncertain future could force the Raiders to deal. The problem for the Chiefs, who are under the stewardship of new coach Andy Reid and first-year general manager John Dorsey, is that they likely require the perceived need for a quarterback to cause enough panic that some team will feel obliged to trade up for West Virginia's Geno Smith. Smith is considered the top quarterback in a draft that pales in comparison to the crop from a year ago. |

Using a "win now" as a justification for getting Mr Mediocre in his late 20s to be your QB is the silliest shit I've ever heard.
31 teames won't win the SB next season. It is overwhelmingly likely that the Chiefs will be one of those teams. That is even true for the teams that DO have a top 5 QB. What most people here want is the shot at a very good (not even "elite", necasarily) QB that will be here for a decade. If the team can stay in the playoff mix (the other end of the playoff mix, not the WC weekend then home) for the majority of that decade then at least there's a shot that things will work the way they are supposed to work for one of those years and you might get your hands on some silverware. If "win now" means 9-7, then yeah, draft the tackle. |

Oh look. Flynn to the raiders and another report just came out about the Bills talking to Kolb. How deep does it cut to see me always be correct about things?

Geno Smith hopes Chiefs are “legitimately interested”
Posted by Mike Florio on March 30, 2013, 11:26 AM EDT Getty Images West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith knows a thing or two about smokescreens. Possibly from all the burning couches. Regardless, Smith realizes that the Chiefs could be showing interest in the former Mountaineer not because they want to use the first overall pick on him but because they hope to trade the selection to someone else. He’ll find out more when he visits the Chiefs this week. “I hope Kansas City is legitimately interested,” Smith told Jim Corbett of USA Today. “I hope I go No. 1, but, hey, we’ll see. The Chiefs are bringing me in, so I’m going in there thinking that they’re interested [in me], because I am in them. “I’m just going to do what I’ve always done, try and impress them, just be myself and allow the process to do it’s job and get ready for whoever drafts me. I’ll be going Monday to Friday, working out for different teams.” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network recently reported that the Chiefs are “fascinated” with Smith, and that one scout there compares Smith to a young Donovan McNabb. The report widely is being regarded as the blowing of smoke by the Chiefs, given that G.M. John Dorsey told reporters last month that he sees no first-round quarterback prospects in the draft pool — a statement that was backed up by the Chiefs sending the second pick in round two plus a third-round pick in 2014 (which could become a second-round pick) to the 49ers for Alex Smith. So look for the Chiefs to do their best to make Geno think that Kansas City will keep the first overall pick and use it on him. Even though all available evidence suggests that, with the trade for Smith plus a three-year, $10 million deal given to backup Chase Daniel, the Chiefs will be looking to address needs elsewhere at the top of the draft. And they’ll be able to address even more of those needs if they can lure one of the other teams in the top 10 to pay an RG3-style ransom for the privilege of picking GS1.

I hope so because if you guys don't draft a franchise qb you don't have a shot this year. Reid will have to without fail make sure something good happens with Alex or Chase. |
