Black Sails on Starz

My buddy got Starz recently and started DVRing this show.

It's off to a pretty good start.

Anyone else watching?

I thought they've managed it well, particularly with Michael Bay involved. It's surprising they don't just explain everything and move on to explosions instead of making you think and develop characters.

I gave up on this roughly halfway through season one, it just wasnt going anywhere for me

Then, boredom and desperation for real tv got the best of me, and the first 3 seasons were rented... it has truly redeemed (almost) itself in later years

Love how they turned Charles Vane around, he became a true hero

Blackbeard has been fantastic

Woods Rogers has been a worthy foe

Long John Silver will be allowed to ride off into the sunset before the dream of a pirate haven Nassau is crushed by the New World

Captain James Flint went gay? .. they just had to go and gay it up, I just pretend that part of the story never happened

There was no reason to have to go there and ruin an awesome character... Bey must be ghey

Otherwise its been a great show, looking forward to newly released season 4 that I rented today

Never heard of it but I don't get Starz.

I think I would probably like it as I read Under the Black Flag and loved reading about real pirates. After seeing this thread, I checked this out and I see they have even do s fictionalized Anne Bonny—a famous female pirate. Don't know if they include Mary Read of Grace O'Malley.

You my friend, are an outstanding lady... Under the Black Flag is one of my most cherished books

There cant possibly be a better, more fact filled book about pirates... and Anne Bonny gets plenty of screen time in Black Sails, she is Calico Jack Rackhams right hand gal

I loved it!

When you're in Tampa Bay, you can't resist reading up on real pirates. ( or go to Gasparilla dressed up as one.)

If you enjoyed Under the Black Flag you should check out The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard. It tells the story of the fight for Nassau that the show deals with (minus the factionalized Treasure Island characters of course). It is an excellent read. The fact that I read it before this show made this show weird for me to watch. Dropping in Flint, Silver and the other fantasy charachters in the middle of that true story always bothered me. It is a great enough story on its own. That said I still mostly enjoyed the series (especially season 3). The ending was terrible however. Absolutely hated it.

But do be sure to check out the book.
