I don't think many Native Americans are complaining about it much. Its mostly white douchenozzles like Costas that are complaining about it.

I don't really care what his viewpoint is, I watch SNF to watch football, not to be lectured.
It was the same way when he ranted about gun control after Belcher did what he did. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with him, I just want to watch football. It was a player on the team that I cheer for, so naturally the event affected me, and I'm not near as close to the team as a lot of people here are. That was a sad weekend, and then on the Sunday night game, this asshole rants about how he feels about guns and what he thinks we should do about it, obviously not giving a damn about the people the situation and how they've been affected by the tragedy. Sports are, more often than not, somewhat of a getaway from the struggles of life. Nobody wants to tune in to a broadcast only to be told what to think on a certain issue. |

Are people still talking about this guy as the next MLB Commissioner? I heard so when Selig confirmed he was leaving not so long ago.

I understand the argument for changing the name...
But I've yet to even hear an argument for not changing the name. You know your gonna lose the fight when you can't even come up with a counter-argument and all you've got is "That's the way it's always been" |

1) We don't care if you don't like it. 2) You shouldn't be offended because it wasn't meant to be offensive, so go back to where you came from. 3) Toughen up Mr. Thin-Skin. 4) You lost, soooooooooooooooo......... 5) If I can be described as a white male, you can be described as a redskin. 6) Trust me, this helps to keep you relevant. 7) Want Long Island back? We'll throw in New York city too.... OK, you can have Denver and San Fran too! You drive a hard bargain! 8) Let's talk about this over drinks, OK? 9) Where's Chief Costas, we only deal with her???!!! See, all of those are perfectly OK "reasons" and counters, but many won't like them.

He's a huge liberal.....doesn't surprise me much that he would say something reeruned like that.
He was all over the whole gun control thing as well. I'm 50% Oneida indian. All my moms side of the family is full blood. I could give a **** less about the name Redskin, Chief, Indian, etc.

It's an interesting problem for them, I think. They have immense brand recognition and there's value in that, and the truth is that 99 percent of the population doesn't even think about the name other than as a football team. So there's a huge business argument to keep the name. On the other hand, it really is a stupid and ignorant name if you step back and think about it. At some point, do you say, "Hey, this isn't 1920 any more", and step up and change it? Just because a majority isn't bothered by it, that's no excuse to not do the right thing. A majority of people in North Carolina didn't want African Americans at Woolworth's back in the day. I think one of the biggest challenges is that the Native American community doesn't seem to care. I think if their national leaders spoke up about it, it would make it a much easier decision to do the change. Have they spoken up? Maybe I just haven't heard. These football brands are incredibly powerful, and I think they overwhelm the words that label them. If I say "Bengals", how many football fans think of a tiger as opposed to the football team? Do people really know what a Bill is? Or a Charger? The words describe football teams in the modern world, much more so than the original nouns that they were drawn from. I think that's why most people don't even think about the word "redskin" as a noun.
