Auto Guys

I am trying to change my transmission fluid on my 2004 f150 5.4. I need to know which line is the return line for the cooling system. Is it the top one or the bottom one going into the transmission? There is also some block of metal about a foot back from where the lines go into the transmission that both lines go into(I think it is the thermostat). What is that and can I just disconnect the line from there?

Thanks!

Drain fluid, Remove transmission pan, remove transmission filter, install new filter, reinstall pan with gasket. Fill it with fluid.

Automatic ones, yeah. I'm good for getting it out if I have to.

Anymore I try to dump the vehicle before I have to mess with a goddamned transmission.

There's a shit ton of youtube videos on replacing F-150 transmission fluid. Find the one that looks most familiar to the layout and angles you're dealing with when looking at and working on yours and pay attention to relevant details.

I mean, if you insist, we could track down exact details on your truck and work up some diagrams and steps, but it seems like there's plenty of reference material already available.

It's not like you're asknig for help on a wierd mid-60s Trabant transfer case from a barn in rural Poland. It's an F-150 ferchrissakes.

Never knew the cooling system went into the transmission. You sure about that?

But yeah, google it. Someone out there has done this before.

Separate cooling. Not all transmissions have or need them. Just another liquid pumped to another radiator

I have googled the shit out of it. I have found ones for pre 2004 but not the specific 2004-2008. Most videos are not using the method I am going to use. They only get the fluid in the pan the way they all do it. They either just drop the pan and get the red shower or pump it out through the line you put it in. Either way only drains the pan. The way I am doing it you get all the the fluid(or at least most of it). Here is a link to the method I am using:

https://sites.google.com/site/fordf1...nge-procedures

I am guessing it is the same for mine(top line going into tranny) but I just wanted to make sure.
