SACRAMENTO — Sources confirm that the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is working a significant break in the search for the East Area Rapist.

A possible arrest in the decadeslong case may have been made. The department said it hopes to release further information Wednesday.

Police believe the East Area Rapist or Golden State Killer was responsible for 12 homicides, almost 50 rapes and 120 home burglaries that spanned a decade starting in the late 1970s in Sacramento County.

“It is the most prolific unsolved serial killing case probably in modern history,” said Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert.

FOX40’s own “Exposed: East Area Rapist” podcast covered the cold case through interviews with victims, their families and the original investigators.

Probably not. Too much difference in targets and methodology. This POS got off on the control. Zodiac's thing seemed to be more about creating fear and a sense of being smarter than the police.

I really hope they find the identity of the Zodiac. He is probably long since dead- but to put a face to that maniac would have to be considered the greatest detective work of all time. He inspired a lot of sickos over the years.

Not really.

GSK broke into houses and his main motivation was rape. Zodiac killed in public with a gun and there was no rape or sexual assault.

Read the blog- there are a lot of things that Do match up. Like how they tied the knots- method of incapacitating the male, the way they walked, ect.

Not saying they are the same- but I would not be surprised either.
