Music Shamesong - Your lamest favorite song - Page 5

Caught this in passing recently and had forgotten how pleasant it was. Turns out, a lot of my friends had all but forgotten it, yet got emotional just listening to a few bars.

By all rights, this should be the poster song for everything wrong with that era, but it survives on, I don't know what, simplicity, earnestness.

Not to say this is my 'favorite favorite' song, but it's pretty impressive, and a little perplexing, how well it holds up.

Its always been one of my guilty pleasure songs but most people can't stand it.

I can recall that, the year this came out, I was mad that this was not the #1 song of the year on Casey Kasem's Year End Top 100. It was something like #85, what a sheltered life, me and my little clock radio tuned to Q104. Not even cool enough for KY102.

Jimmy Eat World, though. That shit is good. I don't necessarily see shame in sappy stuff. Those are all pretty decent.

Not as many people like their bubblegum phase. I like their rocking phase (Ballroom Blitz, Fox on the Run, Hell Raiser, etc) but have a soft spot for their bubblegum stuff too.

Nope. I grew up during the '70's and still have my Babys albums from then. I've also been on a tear lately going back and picking up stuff from the 70's that I wasn't into at the time (like ELO).

I'm 45 so it's a bit before my time, but I do remember some from the late 70s.

I think most of it comes from the fact that my parents were in their 30s during the 70s and hearing it on the radio.

I graduated high school in 1982 so it was mid to late 70's for me. The funny thing is that at the time I was more into classic or hard rock so a lot of the stuff I am getting now is actually fairly new to me, though I remember some of the songs on the radio.
