Embid is getting killed on Twitter for praising Ronaldo's assist at the end of the game.

"The U.S. is known to give all they have in every single game. Otherwise Mexico wouldn't be here."

-- U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann upon being asked about the possibility of collusion between the USA and Germany in their final group game in which a tie would guarantee second-round passage for both teams. The USA, after already having clinched a spot in Brazil 2014, saved Mexico’s World Cup hopes with its performance in a 3-2 win over Panama. (USA Today)

Meh. We should sign a treaty with them to just kick off and then play cards for 90 minutes.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I don't know if they have to play their best at all times. There is precedent in other sports.

Baseball - Teams rest their players after they have qualified. Take starters out early when the game is in hand.

Football - Teams will not play players when qualified for the playoffs. In the Super bowl they allowed teams to score so they could get the ball back. When seeding is established, will not play players.

College Basketball - Teams will not play their best players when way ahead.

But, I don't think either team will lay down and accept a mutual tie.

They got me to watch a game. I'd say I'm the market that they want to tap. Watches a lot of sports, talks sports, buys jerseys etc.

They really blew it by allowing that goal. It looked sloppy and a lack of focus like we got this in the bag. That was a major opportunity to impress the non-soccer fan and get them to watch a MLS game.

But, I do understand Soccer better now. And will watch the next game too. So there is still a chance to attract large amount of sports fans to soccer.

It should have shown you how dangerous the opposition can be from minute one to the last seconds, and despite the low scores, how close teams are to scoring with the slightest letdown.

What looks like to the lay person a bunch of lazy dudes lolling around on a tropical beach, is often those same guys sticking their hands in and out of a crocodile's mouth.

What the lack of familiarity with the game engenders is an inability to see the crocodile. Similar to the Jones goal where he looked pent up until he made just the right move to his right and blasted one of the more impressive goals of the Cup.

Yeah, I think that goal and the entire game gives people a great reason to keep watching soccer.

Becoming highly invested emotionally, not so much (not that it's recommended for any team)...

For any team in any sport. Being a fan is the worst idea of fun in human history.
