Looming retirement

So the Mrs and I have set a march 1st date for me to hang up my pipewrench for good. In preparation, I bought a set of Callaway golf clubs. I haven't played in 20 years so I didn't break the bank on a set of Taylor made, but these are a nice starter set.

I live in a golf community, so I loaded up the club's and headed to their driving range to hack at some balls.

A couple of observations from today.

1. I like the feel of the new clubs and they performed well.

2. I may out of shape even though I have a physical job.

3. I need a lot more time on the range before I hit the course.

I'm looking forward to being able to finally spend more time on a hobby that I have always enjoyed but couldn't really pursue because of the demands of the job, family etc.

I understand if you don’t want to answer this, but what is your wife’s business? My wife and I have been working together for the last two years (web/graphic design, photography, videography). Through no fault of our own, we recently lost two of our biggest clients. This has literally been the best two years of our lives and we don’t want to go back to work for “the man”. Lol

Unfortunately, we just can’t seem to gain any footing and we’re getting dangerously close to having to get outside jobs.

Congratulations though, it’s encouraging to hear about someone having success with their business.

As crazy as it may sound, it's a pet sitting business. She does overnight stays, check-ins and we board dogs. It's unbelievable how much money people are willing to spend on their animals. Thanksgiving week, she made over 3k ( much of that was cash).

Our house sits on a half acre. We fenced in 2/3rds of the yard for the dogs and turned one of the bedrooms into the doggie room complete with door leading onto the deck into the yard. People seem to like our setup.

I wish you and the Mrs all the best.

That is amazingly creative and awesome! I wish we were smart enough to come up with something like that. Lol

I appreciate it, man! I’m positive something will work out.

Taylor Made makes good drivers. They have a really nice driving iron. Their other stuff is really hit-or-miss. They're the most heavily marketed, but their equipment is far from the best.

Good for you. Chase stuff that makes you happy. I retired from corporate at 53. i sold my golf clubs when I realized I was not enjoying it after many years. You will find many great ways to fill your time. Stay active and busy. Yesterday and day before I spent about 6 hours each day running a chainsaw and working on farm and at 67 Im still going 100.

Thanks

One of my biggest concerns is boredom so I'm trying to plan ahead. Besides golf, I'll be holding down the fort and helping the Mrs whenever she needs me. Also have a buddy who wants to teach me how to play guitar. I've always enjoyed woodworking too so I plan on doing some of that as well.

That said, the first thing I want to do is sleep in past 5:30am for a change. We'll see what my internal clock has to say about that though.

Good idea! I used to volunteer my time to special needs kids when I was in the service and really enjoyed it. I'll have to look into the Arc and see if they need volunteers
