Mitchell is the man!

Is he now the man opposite Peters for the future? He has played some lock down corner so far.

Sander went from killing us to doing nothing.

That Eric Murray kid can tackle like crazy.. but he seems destined for safetly. DJ White? Not so sure.
I imagine that it will be a 2 year deal so that they keep leverage but don't commit to a guy who might be a flash in the pain. If Mitchell works out then we have 3 guys who can at least hold their own. Peters,Nelson,Mitchell ... i still want a big cornerback for certain matchups.

DJ White is a rookie, gotta give him a bit of time.

at least another training camp

I was one of those who was concerned about the hole left by Sean Smith's departure. Totally fine with this squad provided we can bring Eric Berry back.

Our OLBs are set with Houston and Ford.

Our D-Line has the question mark of Poe, but he hasn't played himself into a huge contract this year so I'm hopeful we can get a reasonable deal done. If not, the ascendance of Jones makes that loss easier to stomach. Our defense is missing a great ILB and we're set for a few more years. Nunez-Roches has stepped up just fine as well.

Love that Dorsey brought Mitchell in even after drafting 57 CBs in this year's draft. Seems like he doesn't get hung up on proving himself right in terms of draft picks. The only thing that matters is how good they are, not how they got here, and that's how it should be.

Our biggest weakness, 2nd corner opposite Peters, is now a position of respectability, maybe even a position of strength if Mitchell and Nelson can keep playing like this.

On a side note, we've got so many guys on defense playing well, some guys are getting slightly overlooked. Chris Jones and Ron Parker are balling their freaking asses off.

It would be awesome if Mitchell can maintain his level of play and be a solid #2 for us next year. If he's a one-year wonder that's fine too, as long as the drop off doesn't happen until next year. Let's just get through this season without having anymore changes at corner!

Already been beaten to death but I seriously have to consider how they do their grading when a guy like Peters isn't at or near the top.

Teams legitimately don't even throw in his direction. And it's not like they're having tons of success elsewhere lately.

Yeah you almost take it for granted that guys will step up. If a guy stepped up on defense in an old era he would be an icon. Here we love it, but expect it.

He has also shown this with qb. I don't think he is blind about our qb and I trust him. Im not a huge Smith fan but I think the idea clay has about Smith needing to fail to upgrade is horribly misguided. I think especially this year Smith has a chance to get us there, but maybe not. But I think Dorsey will go get his qb in the draft regardless if he feels he can.

While that is a fair point, Marty was a part of the decision making team in San Diego that drafted 2 HoF quarterbacks. Why couldn't he have done that here? Yes, I am bitter about it.

It's a grading over 3 games. Keep in mind, Mitchell only gave up 28 yards in 2 games despite quarterbacks throwing at him 15 times in that span.

I didn't even look at the link but saw some grading from earlier in the year and Peters was ranked nowhere near even the top 25.

But has Peters even allowed a catch in the last 3 weeks? I haven't been like "Damn, Marcus!" in months.

Such a great start! really makes the wasted pick of Russell and the fragility of Gaines less.. painful.

I think the guy is for real. Marcus Cooper looked.. even at his best.. like he was relying solely on his physical abilities. Mitchell plays with more of a controlled, tactical approach.

I hope he is for real. Regardless, if Gaines can get healthy we will have two guys competing for the spot next season and respectable depth.

Yea the flaw to the grading system is that it underestimates the impact Peters has in creating turnovers. It was no shock that Peters was giving up a lot of chunk yardage trying to gamble on routes. But lately he's done better with the damage control but QBs have also given him less looks thus less INTs. Mitchell has been a huge target all 3 weeks and he has stepped up to the plate.

This kid is playing extremely well. I don't have a bad thing to say about him whatsoever. Hopefully it continues and the Chiefs have found a reliable #2.

meh... Mitchell keeps this up, or anything close to it, Gaines will be left to compete for CB3.

He was a better NCB, anyway, IIRC.
