While it's tragic, it's also senseless.

These guys need a reality check about drinking and driving. If your buddy does it and dies, the last thing you should be doing is repeating the same.

Sad day for Royals fan.

Thank God he didn't kill anybody else.

Are there compensatory picks in MLB?

We Cardinal fans know this story all too well. Young star with a future in front of him dies because of horrible and preventable decisions.

It really hit me hard. The lost potential just thrown away.

Sorry Royals fans.

I drove in Ecuador once. All traffic laws are merely suggestions. Missing signs, crappy roads. Never again. Barely survived. Third world driving is Russian roulette.

In some countries, drunk driving also doesn't have the stigma that it does here. While I was abroad our driver stopped the van over at a local market so we could go to the bathroom. I saw him throwing down shots and knew the last few hours of the trip were going to be an adventure.

I'd like to think that the deaths of Jose Fernandez and Ventura would spur some self-reflection and behavior modification among other players, but I'm not optimistic.

I'm not too shocked by this. When I saw Ventura's instagram videos of himself doing cocaine (and there were syringes all over the coffee table) a few months before the 2015 season you just knew it wouldn't be too long. So sad. You can't help anyone that doesn't want it.

He didn't seem too bright. People told him in the comments that everyone can see these videos. There were like 3 of them. He posted that wide eyed emoji and they were deleted shortly after that. Dumb kid. It's too bad.

I know he had a lot of maturity issues. I laughed when deadspin posted that article calling him an honory little shit. There was a part of me that loved it when he would give a **** you stare down to an opposing batters. Yordano had some great postseason performances that more talented and better paid pitchers never see in their entire career.

This is just heartbreaking. He had such a bright future ahead of him. I always thought once he got into his late 20's he was going to be a real force. Just terrible.

For all of his talk, he backed it up by taking on Machado last year. A part of me, deep down, down below all of the annoyance I had for him at that time, admired him for not running away.
