My dad took my older brother out of school late Aug 1980, where Brett went over .400. They both said the place stood screaming for like 5 min straight while he stood on 2b with his hands raised to the crowd

Game 7 1985 World Series- game 6 has the better story, but game 7 has the better party
1936 Olympics- would be so great to see the look of disgust on all those nazi faces 1992 dream team scrimmage- so much talent in a 5-5 matchup even with reserves. Tyson v Seldon- watch the 1st round knockout, then solve the case of who shot tupac Wild card game last year- I was actually at this game but I wouldn't trade it for any other game in history. |

A few baseball ones for folks...
1. 1932 Game 3 of the World Series - where Babe Ruth called his shot. 2. May 25th, 1935, Forbes field - Babe Ruth's 6th to last game ever, breaking down in his old age, he still managed to hit 3 HRs, one of which left Forbe's Field completely, one of a very, very few to ever do so. 3. 1996 College World Series, where in the bottom of the 9th, down by 1, 1 runner on, and with 2 outs, Warren Morris hit the game winning home run - the only time a major championship has been won in such a way. 4. May 1st, 1991 - Nolan Ryan's 7th no hitter. 5. September 8th, 1990 - Bo Jackson's hit hits Nolan Ryan in the lip, but Ryan not only throws him out at 1st, but stays in the game, bloody lip et al. |

The 2004 Masters-Phil Mickelson wins the first of three green jackets and "The Leap" is created 4. 2010 Stanley Cup finals-Blackhawks win first Stanley Cup since 1961 5. 1978 NBA Championship-Bullets with Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, and Bobby Dandridge beat the Seattle Supersonics 6. 1979 NCAA Basketball Championship Game-Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson 7. 1975 Boxing Heavyweight Championship Ali vs Frazier- "The Thrilla in Manilla" 8. 1994 Monday Night NFL Football- Magic in Mile High as KC Chief Joe Montana outduels Denver Bronco Elway for one of the greatest games I've ever watched as a Chiefs fan 9. 1970 World Series- Pirates win again as Willie Stargell is MVP 10. Yankee Stadium July 4th 1939- Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day- Babe Ruth was also there. I'll post my most embarrassing one...how about that? My friends give me crap to this day about this one. Figured this would be more fun for you guys to watch...at my expense of course.
I am in the black. This was at state. I had just lost in the semis to a guy who went on to win his 3rd state title and wrestled for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The match in the video was my consolation semifinal match. If I won, I wrestled for 3rd and 4th, if I lost I wrestled for 5th and 6th. I was confused when I walked on the mat because I thought I had to wrestle the kid I was beating 8-2 when I pinned him in the first round. After my match with the 3 timer in the semis, I walked over to that mat to see who I was going to face...it was either the guy I beat first round, or the guy in this video. The guy I destroyed first round was up 10-0 vs. the guy in this video with one minute left in the match. I just thought, "ok, I've got a rematch with the guy I beat 1st round. I'm fine with that" and walked away. I was still pretty pissy from losing my semifinal match. So then when I saw this guy step on the mat, I thought, "what the **** happened in that last minute of that match!?!?! Last I saw, this kid was getting destroyed by the kid I destroyed 1st round!?!?!!" I would soon find out. After I took the guy down, I could just tell that it was a kid that I could dominate...he was a lot weaker than me...type of kid I could have just forcibly turned over with a chicken wing and just pin with no problem. Almost locked up a couple cradles out of bounds...the ref didn't give me a chance to bring him back in and work to turn him with one of the attempts, IMO. It was just a matter of time before I would find some way to pin him...he didn't seem very good...at all. In the 2nd period, I attempted a high crotch, he played the edge and went out of bounds. We then went back to the center of the mat and he hit me with the SLOWEST headlock I've ever seen. It looks like a 1st grader head lock. And the crazy thing was, I was not susceptible to those...that was the only time I had ever been caught in one, in practice or competition since I began in 1st grade...yet I got caught in the slowest, sloppiest headlock ever...and I got pinned and had to wrestle for 5th and 6th. Turns out, that kid hit the guy I beat first round with the same headlock when he was down 10-0 with like 30 seconds left. Unbelievable. To make things worse...the guy who I pinned in 54 seconds in the quarterfinals wrestled back for 3rd...he just destroyed this kid for 3rd and 4th... And to think this kid actually became a national All-American in D3... It boggles my mind. This kid, other than that headlock, had nothing going for him...he wasn't good...and the headlock wasn't even very good...it was awful...I just had a brain lapse and got caught on it. It took me 10 years before I could talk about this one without getting upset. Last edited by rico; 05-10-2015 at 02:56 PM.. |

In youth and HS wrestling, we used to practice these headlock defense drills called the "turtle head" drills. Which basically we would have our partner try a headlock and you had to sink your head down into your neck and back away. We did those until it was second nature for us to start your defense to the headlock the instant your opponent appeared that they were going to initiate one... It was second nature for me to defend a headlock... And I got caught in THAT ugly thing. He only had like 1/4 of the top of my head locked up when he threw it. Just ugly. Wasn't fatigued at all, though. I don't know what happened. |

You should find that kid on Facebook and challenge him to a rematch.

I was wrong by doing that. He wasn't being a smart ass by asking how I was doing...he is a genuinely nice guy. I remember talking to him in the grand march before going on the podium...very mannerly, respectful guy and easy to talk to...farm boy type...had a Southern drawl (sp?) I wish I wouldn't have been an ass the last time I saw him. I used to run into him at opens in college all the time and we were very cordial. The butt-hurt was very real with me for a few years following that match...alcohol definitely exposed the butt-hurt in me that night. I'd be cool with him if I saw him out and about now, though. Just took me forever to get over that one. |
