Just found a JoCo Sheriff's Office notice on my door
Says there's a "court notice you must pick up ASAP".

Wonder what in the world this could be?

List of possibilities on their website includes:

Writ of Restitution (Evictions) - my rent is not delinquent
Special Writ of Executions - don't think I have any sort of outstanding debts
Service of Protection/Stalking Orders - last I checked I'm not stalking anyone
Vehicle Registration Enforcement - everything up to date
Delinquent Tax Collection - everything up to date
Foreclosure Sales - not applicable
Divorce Orders - not married

Any other possibilities?

many sheriff departments bring in revenue serving papers. they are still required to properly serve you, so it is your choice to go to them. If you do, and you are being sued, it will be impossible to claim a bad serve because they will copy your ID and get a signature.

maybe check with your lawyer before going. Mine turned out to be an old landlord for a relative I had helped out who sued me instead of them. I was fine with being served so it wasn't a big deal to pick it up, but it can be nerve wracking.

This whole "avoid it so you don't get served" thing is really bad advice. Lets say its someone suing you and you successfully get the sheriff to give up. Whoever is suing you could hire a professional process server and if they can't find you right away, if they are unethical they could give you garbage service and swear under oath in court that you were served.

Congratulations, now you have a judgment to unravel, all because you thought you were clever by avoiding service. If you are being sued, you should just find out what it is. (not saying thats what this case is, but you should never duck service)
