All Things Video Games & Game Reviews

Hey guys...
Thought we could use a thread to help one another out with purchasing new and used games. Now that the next gen consoles are out and the holiday season will soon be upon us, many new games are going to drop. We've been throwing 'reviews' in several different threads or making new threads for each game. I thought we might like to converge and discuss them as a whole. Whether you're on PS3, 360, PS4, XB one or even a wii, PC and Mac, this is a repository for what you're playing and how you rate it.

Let's try to do a 1-10 scale for each game. Take into account the following:

Storyline
Challenge
Replayability
Graphics
Online functionality
Downloadable content
AI/npc's
Price
Length of gameplay

You can use all or some of those as a guide to score the game. If there are other aspects you'd like to tell as about with your game, please do so. These are just suggentions.

Please note what system, (if necessary i.e. It being exclusive to a system) you're playing on and let us know what you think.

1. Sucks, I'd rather watch Brodie Croyle play as our starter. This game is dogshit.
2. Don't waste your time. It's obviously been programmed by a bunch of chimps with syphilis.
3. I'd rather eat tapioca pudding out of my grandmothers colostomy bag, then stick my tongue in her stoma.
4. Meh, there's really better stuff to do, (like waxing my pubes) but I was lazy.
5. This is kinda like purgatory. It's not the best place to be but it could be worse.
6. Not bad at all... It's like I just scored a BJ from my hot first cousin.
7. Entertaining as all hell, kinda like the feeling where you just drank enough not to puke and can still walk.
8. Buy this game, I'm super-cereal. It's got stuff that makes my nipples tingly.
9. HELL F'ing YEAH! I'd talk more about it but I'm gonna be locked in place for a week just playing this ****er.
10. This game is like godfather two and the empire strikes back joined forces to **** your face off with wow. I'm taking all of my PTO days and going on FMLA.

EDIT: We can also discuss upcoming/all things gaming in here as well.
Enjoy!

Your making me want it. I never dissed blood borne or said it was bad, I just didn't know if it was a day or week one purchase. It did look kinda scary and interesting, I've never played a dark souls game nor have I ever really dabbled into RPGs too much however I like playing games on the hardest difficulty. I just need to know more about it because I've been quite dissapointed with the titles as of late and bored to say the least. Dying light hasn't been touched in over a month it was fun for a bit but the format became repetitive and boring, ac unity is ok but still seems buggy. I've just been playing Gta online and madden online ranked but I'm just waiting on a next title to keep me fully engaged and entertained. I'm a picky gamer. Tomb raider and wolfenstein were really fun though and were some of my favorites for the 4. I'm hoping the new batman will be that next title while I wait for metal gear. But like I said blood borne looks good, I just really need to know more.

Bloodborne (Initial Impressions) - PS4

Growing up I recall when we got our first gaming console. It was an Atari with three games. Tanks, Pac Man and Tennis.
****, we've come a long way.

This goddamned game is one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. I swear, two hours into this thing yesterday, I was a red pube away from driving to Gamestop and getting a refund or trading it in on a nice, simple FPS.
However thanks to Buck and a few others, I stuck with it. At 7:00 this evening I deleted the game I was struggling with, actually took my time and researched character setup, weapon attributes, fighting mechanics and navigation and I am glad I did. I've now made it three times further in this game than I did with my initial playthru in 1/4 the time. I've found shortcuts, loot and I've made it to the first boss. (I'm not quite ready for him yet)
Where in my first attempt, I died at least a dozen times and nearly raged the **** out, I've played this one for 4 hours and haven't bit it yet.

This game is like nothing you've ever played if you're a casual to intermediate gamer. This is a masterpiece of strategy and patience where you should be prepared to spend at least 60+ hours in gameplay.
There are no power ups, instant save points or difficulty sliders. This game is absolutely brutal. Where at first I was seriously questioning my purchase and where the Gonzo of old would've long given up, I nutted up and put forth a little effort.
The game is beautiful. The graphics, music and surrounding aesthetics are the best you'll find in any game. God, the music is just outstanding and seamless during situational changes.

You start out not having a clue of WTF you're supposed to do or supposed to go and I can tell you, not much changes during the first few hours. The only guide you have in this world are subtle hints left for you by other players or random mobs behind closed doors. This is a total solo effort (for the most part) and its up to you to figure out where to go.
Once you've accepted what this game is about and what it's expectations of the player are, you'll find it a very rewarding experience.
I know many of you have played games in the Dark Souls lineup but this was more directed towards other noobs to the genre like myself.
Give this game an honest chance, you won't be sorry. I'm certainly glad I did and it's opened me up to a whole other world of gaming.
I'll definitely write more regarding this one. Feel free to post any advice or impressions you have.

How would you rank it amongst the ps4 library? Is it a ps4 only game or on PC and xbox one. Would a casual yet likes to play on high difficultys gamer enjoy it? The more I hear about it, the more I wanna try it. Your saying the cutsomization was an issue and made you wanna refund it but after that it sounds like the gameplay must be really good.

In all honesty, I really wasn't prepared. I didn't understand what it was about. It's all about strategy. The fighting mechanics are so detailed and precise. You have to evaluate each enemies strengths and time your attacks. Do you wait for him to do his move and attack or do you try to hit him first and stagger him? It all depends on how much you've upgraded. The enemy AI isn't stupid. They see you from a ways off. You can sneak up on them as long as they're alone. You can goad one or two of them into a fight away from the mob as well.

This is a PS4 exclusive. I would assume it'll eventually be released on PC but that will be a year or two down the line. It's really not comparable to anything else in their library at the moment. I guess it's a lot like the Dark Souls games but it has a lot of variance.
From what you've stated, you and I are similar with what we enjoy game-wise. You'll get pretty frustrated with this at first but I recommend you check out a couple walk-throughs. If you end up getting it, definitely research it a little. Going in all balls-out is where I screwed up. They call it an RPG but I'd classify it more as a survival horror/strategy game. It's very intense man. If you pick it up, let me know.

The internet is your friend. I almost quit The Last of Us because shit was boring in the beginning and I couldn't figure out where the hell I was supposed to go. I looked up a walk through and it helped me enjoy the game and keep playing. I'll probably pick up Bloodborne here in the next month (I want to finish Far Cry 4 first)....and I know I'll have my laptop next to me with a walk through ready to help me out if I need it.

This x eleventybillion.
I have my iPad right next to me. There's not a shit ton of info available just yet but there's enough. They're releasing a game guide that goes with the game on your ps4 that should help quite a bit.

My main question about the game.....is it obvious where you need to go and what you need to do? Is there a map?

Nope. No map. No assistance. However, the game naturally leads you in the direction you need to go. I've found ways to get around areas that are a real bitch. Then once you upgrade enough, you go back and deal with it.

I can't wait to fight the first boss but I'm just not quite strong enough yet so I need to take care of bidness.

I remember when gaming was in it's infancy and everything was new and innovative, now pretty much everything is cookie cutter. Thank goodness for some of the indies, they can inject new life into a stale gaming world. I'm talking about gaming in the 80's and early 90's it was all new a fresh, not everything fit into a cookie cutter mold. I especially despise military shooters, wasted talent to me. So good to know DICE is wasting time on that rather than the Mirrors Edge reboot(I would have preferred a sequel to a reboot). Star Control 2 was one of the greatest games ever and they took the development team and have them making baby games, more examples of wasted talent..sigh.........
RIP Toys for Bob.

You're gonna die so many times and run through the level that by the time you're done with it you'll memorize where everything is.

The coolest thing is unlocking shortcuts as you go through the level so that you can bypass a lot of shit as you progress.

What I love is that the game isn't linear at all. You can play the game any way you want and at your own pace.

I died to the second boss about 20 times before I realized what I was doing wrong and then I beat him the next time I faced him.

That is the cool thing about this game. It doesn't tell you how to do anything (except basic controls) and you have to figure it out and it's not obvious or easy what you're supposed to do.

Future Press does a great job on these guides, but they will be outdated after a few balance updates the game will surely get. Boss strategies and walkthroughs should remain the same - but item/weapon stats will change.

Faced the first boss. Had full supply of echos and molitovs. I was kicking ass... Until he got me pinned against the far wall. I got him down to damn near 10% health. SHIT! That was so frustrating. However, I found a way to farm a little. I'll be back up to strength within a half hour of gameplay. Stupid work! Gotta go make money.

Quikies, I saw you mention that nobody other than From makes games like this? Is it because it's too hard to do? Surely there is a demand for more of these kinds of games.

There are a few indie developers that are jumping on the formula - Salt and Sanctuary

But as you and a few others have probably noticed, the mechanics, directions, tutorials, maps, and online component are pretty obtuse (which i love).
I wouldn't say other folks can't do it, but the risk may be too great for them.

Look at "Lords of the Fallen". That game tried its best Dark Souls clone, it was a disaster.

edit: It takes a certain type of personality to enjoy these games.. Most folks want their hand held, easy checkpoints, quick saves, and a pause button
