Wagyu Steak

The best ****ing steak I've ever tasted. It is amazing...and unfortunately SUPER expensive. I thought it was just cow raised a certain way and massaged certain times a week. But apparently after some reading it is just a cow breed.

If it's just a cow breed, it's a little frustrating that it is 10x as expensive as regular beef. I suppose it's just a rare breed of cow at this point that is very sought after. Curious to how many of you have had it, and where? Especially in Kansas City. I've never seen it in supermarkets, and would like to buy it and just cook it my own.

Also I never stated anything about Kobe being better or worse than Waygu just that there are few places that actually sold authentic Wagyu and where I had some. Kobe beef is Wagyu... I seriously am doubting this as you stated there are only 10 in the country. I gave you a list of many more that carry both Wagyu and the more prestigious Kobe. Actually the Miyazaki is said to be better but since it is the same cow raised in a separate location it is not licensed as Kobe.

I think the difference if any in the two comes down to personal preference and mostly the chef preparing it. Regardless of which is actually better, American Kobe is still not authentic Wagyu or vice versa. American Kobe is a brand name and not Kobe at all.

I’ll try the American Kobe next time and see if it is better in my opinion

You let me know the first time you have pure bred domestic Wagyu or the half breed varieties of F1, F2 or F3 or better yet, let us know the first time you have Japanese Wagyu.

These are standards for Australian crossbreeding of Wagyu beef, the US does not have such a standard yet many brands and associations do follow them. These brands or associations keep track of the herd to keep proper genetic records of F1, F2. ect cattle.

Cross number Level of Wagyu content Definition
First cross 50% Wagyu Crossbred Wagyu F1 50% Has 50% or higher Wagyu genetic content.
For example the first generation of crossbreeding a Wagyu fullblood sire and the dam of another breed.


Second cross 75% Wagyu Crossbred Wagyu F2 75% Has 75% or higher Wagyu genetic content.
For example is the result of at least two generations of crossbreeding, using a Wagyu fullblood sire and a crossbred Wagyu F1 dam.


Third cross 87.5% Wagyu Crossbred Wagyu F3 87+% Has greater than 87% Wagyu genetic content.
For example is the result of at least three generations of crossbreeding, using a Wagyu fullblood sire and a
Crossbred Wagyu F2 dam.


Forth cross 93.75% Wagyu Purebred Wagyu F4 93+% Has greater than 93% Wagyu genetic content.
For example, the result of at least four generations of crossbreeding using a Wagyu fullblood sire and a
crossbred Wagyu F3 dam.

Fifth cross 96.875% Wagyu

Sixth cross 98.4375% Wagyu

Seventh cross 99.21875% Wagyu

BTW I don’t claim to know the exact number of vendors but by saying 10 was a generalization of it meaning fewer than most people think.

Also I tried the F1 Australian filet there about a year ago and I actually prefer it and when I go back again that is probably where I would lean. It seemed much more buttery, melt in your mouth flavor

How is the F1 rated on the scale with the others?

Also given your knowledge here on the subject what are the best steaks/or restaurants in KC?

I doubt you have ever tasted Japanese raised Wagyu beef.

You were in a restaurant that served it, it's right there on their menu...You in turn claim you had a Wagyu Tomahawk ribeye at the cost of eleven hundred dollars and that's for a small one. I calling

I would say you were hoodwinkled and got sold a steak from a rancher in Iowa or Nebraska and not ever a good one at that.

You see that is where you are wrong. My company headquarters are in Silicon Valley and I have been taking executives to Alexander’s since it was in the old location around the corner which they moved from about a year and a half ago. It now is being torn down and has backhoes on the property which i went by after my visit to Alexander’s.

The benefit of my job is getting to take executives to places like Alexander’s and have an open line based on whatever they want to close the deal.

I actually have real pictures of that meat case and the dry aged case next to it and not the stick images you googled off the internet. I would have posted them as i noted on my original post had it not have the new member restrictions

When you walk in the new location the meat case is straight ahead with the dry aged case to the left of it and directly behind is the band saw where they cut your selection

To the right of entrance is the bar and to the right of that is the restrooms.

To the left is the hosted stand which they will take you to the right about 30 feet past 4 foot half wall on way to your table. Once you take a left at the end of that you will be looking directly at the glass enclosed wine room. In front of that there are two large round tables for large groups of 10.

You see i don’t bullshit like you about crap I google I’m there enough to know the actual restaurant lay out.

I never said I didn’t have Waygu i said I ate there and had some recently and you started your rant that what they serve was actually something else. I don’t read watch where they get their meat but i would guess they are pretty reputable place
