Landlines - do you still use them?

I'm finding more and more that we don't even touch our basic house phone anymore. We technically do not have a landline per se, as our service is now IP based with PhonePower service. But, I'm finding that we rarely use the service anymore and just use our cell phones. Considering dropping it completely.

I'm curious how many here still have some form of house phone.

Just cell now, but having a landline isn't a terrible idea imo. But really, landlines are just money dumps anymore.

I wasn't using it much 5 years ago and had a very low hanging line in the back yard. I mean I this thing was only about 6 feet off the ground going from my house to the pole. I called the phone company a couple of times to come and raise it and they refused. One day after running into it yet again with something I went out with my bolt cutters and cut it at the house, rolled up the wire and put it at the base of the pole. It's been nothing but cell from that day on.

But are you still paying for the landline?

We still use a landline, but through our electric co-op fiber line. We have cell phones, but they are just phones, no text and no data and pay $25/mo for both.

No landline for over ten years. One drawback though is that 911 can't find you sometimes.

Heh, negative. I made that call on my cell just after laying the wire at the base of the pole. "Yes I took care of the low hanging wire problem myself, and I need to cancel service immediately."

My dad does cause he doesn't want to lose the # from 1980..Otherwise it's worthless...No one calls it but solicitors and everyone he knows calls his cell

Landline for business. Plus with my provider, you get a landline thrown in for the price of regular internet. Silly not to.

911 is based off the GPS chip in your cell phone now of days and translations are done right.

Its not just $10 per month. At least here, its $15 for the line itself then a bunch of fees to have the line. Somewhere around $27-30 per month after its all said and done. That is the reason I went to a VOIP provider that had e911 service.

Fax is literally the only reason I keep it at this point because about once every year, something comes up that requires a damn fax. Still amazes me that technology is still required.

VOIP, because we don't get cell reception in our home.

It's $9.99 a month through TWC for North American unlimited calling. It's bundled with TWC (Spectrum, now) 200mbps internet and costs $67.99 per month with taxes.

It's a bargain, IMO.
