The Strange and Inscrutable Tale of the North Pond Hermit

One day, a relatively normal man disappears into the woods of north Maine for no apparent reason... 27 years later, he is a local legend.

Its a long read, but what the hell else are you doing? well worth your 10 -15 minutes... sorry for not pasting text, but its a five part deal.

Take a few minutes to check it out and learn something...

What a strange guy, and he looks a hell of a lot older than he is. He must not have ever tried breaking into a home with a big dog or two.

Forget the loneliness, just the practical matter of surviving 27 winters up there with no fire and only a small Coleman camp stove for heat is an incredible achievement.

When it gets cold enough there is no arctic rated sleeping bag that truly keeps you warm, you can pile on 100 blankets and it still wont be enough... the guy had some amazing willpower.

And when you read the things he had to say about all of it, he really doesnt strike me as crazy at all... just so sick of society and its inanities and its pressures that he'd rather suffer through those winters than deal with people ever again.

then he should have learned to be self sufficient, sick of society and walk away?

great, but dont come steal from society to do it. earn something.

whats the difference between this guy and a homeless person begging for change?

the homeless guy asked for it, this guy stole your shit.

I agree that he was a thief and theres nothing honorable in that, but he makes it clear that he took no joy in it, it was just to get by.

Even the cops working his case believe him when he says that.

Its not to put him out there as a hero in the truest sense, but outside of the thievery... theres something strangely admirable about his choices and determination to see them through to the end.

the only way he could see his choices through is from someone else's work.

**** that. there is no honor in that, might as well have been sitting on his ass on welfare. the people that lived around him were his case workers.

you want to be gone? go out and build you something for yourself. this guy stole the land he was on and everything he had and ate for almost 30 years.

too lazy to even try to hunt for anything... \

the more i think about it the more im like "**** that guy"
