Quick question for heating/air guys.

My outside unit is frozen over. Last night and today have been the first time we've had to continuously run the heat. So its been on about 24 hours. I noticed the freezing when I got home from work a few minutes ago. It's heating up the house fine, but I was worried about the frost and thought maybe something was wrong. I've turned it off, and we're using space heaters until I can get some information on whether this is a problem or not. Pics below.

I'm learning that now. It doesn't get that cold down here in Louisiana very often.

They can't, that's why they all have back up systems (usually a standard gas or electric furnace) for when it gets too cold.

One thing is certain, don't listen to Holladay. If your outside unit is running, then you obviously have a heat pump system.
Call it like you want. I made the same mistake that Cosmmo did on the first page. I know you are a seasoned person and trust your judgement. That is why it came as an amazement that it was an A/C unit you were trying to run.

My bad. There are some weak light bulbs on CP. Didn't expect it be you...ref above.

I just had to replace my furnace 2 days ago, thus a lil tender.

I will say, I have no clue to heat pumps. Yours looked like a A/C unit.

Do you have more than 1 zone with dampers? I'm having a problem now that's either with the thermostat, or more likely a malfunctioning automated damper. Basically it's staying closed at all times unless I manually open it, even when a zone is calling for hot air to be pushed. Then no air comes out of be vents beyond whatever ducts are closed by the dampers.
